Position Summary
The Atlanta United Brand Communications Manager will lead the day-to-day execution of the club’s external media strategies, with a focus on the club’s off-the-field activities to drive brand awareness, reputation and business outcomes. This position will play a pivotal role in shaping brand storytelling and corporate communications, while becoming an important advisor for both the club’s leadership team and cross-functional departments. The ideal candidate will be able to quickly integrate into the culture of the club and the soccer industry, consistently and proactively providing strategic counsel and recommendations on earned media and brand opportunities.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a strategic communications plan that leverages Atlanta United’s brand initiatives with support from the Director of Communications.
- Lead club’s PR integration and serve as the primary media contact for off-field initiatives, including community, marketing, sponsorship, ticketing, facilities, and youth programming.
- Serve as lead writer for internal and external communications, ensuring consistency with brand tone and narrative for key messaging in press releases and media advisories; additionally, lead the development and execution of club talking points.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local and national media across multiple verticals, including soccer, business, technology, philanthropy, and lifestyle; lead the club’s management of all media lists.
- Proactively identify story ideas and pitch media to increase Atlanta United’s brand visibility.
- Manage, research and execute award submissions and executive participation in industry conferences and panels.
- Lead club’s measuring efforts and tracking of annual KPIs, including the development and distribution of coverage reports.
- Support the Director, Communications and senior leadership in crisis and issues management, ensuring timely dissemination of sensitive information and media monitoring, as needed.
- Support the Sports Communications team on daily media availabilities and matchday obligations on an as-needed basis.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- 3-5 years of experience in brand public relations, corporate communications, or related field.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proficiency in AP style, executive communications, and press materials.
- A deep level of understanding of the sports communications industry, including a proactive grip on industry trends and tactics.
- Extensive experience with media measurement software.
- Working knowledge of the sport of soccer, MLS, MLS NEXT Pro, and U.S. Soccer
- Preferred experience with media monitoring tools (e.g., Muckrack) and digital marketing software
