Job Summary:

The Broadcast Technician III is responsible for the integrity of all technical systems routing systems, distribution systems, transport systems, broadcast LAN systems, video production switchers and systems, audio mixing, processing, and routing systems, studio audio and video systems, test and monitoring systems, IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) systems, scoreboard and video matrix systems, internal and external digital video signage systems, arena sports timing and clock systems.

This position is responsible for technical troubleshooting. This position requires the ability to work under pressure to meet broadcast deadlines, make decisions, and take corrective action under tight timelines.

Essential Functions:

  • Troubleshoot and repair complex electronic equipment related to broadcast, presentation, and digital signage systems, under the direction of Broadcast Technician IV
    • Monitor status of all equipment related to broadcast, presentation, and digital signage systems on the LA Live Campus. Troubleshoot and resolve any technical problems that occur with any of these systems. Repair or replace any defective components associated with this equipment. Maintain an excellent level of operation for all equipment (i.e. very little, to no down time).
  • Perform scheduled maintenance on electronic equipment related to broadcast, presentation, and digital signage systems, under the direction of Broadcast Technician IV
    • Follow and implement equipment manufacture’s recommended scheduled maintenance procedures. Keep records of completed scheduled maintenance. Implement maintenance at manufacturer’s recommended intervals. Examples of scheduled maintenance would be (but are not limited to the following) replacement / cleaning of air filters, inspection of, and if necessary replacement of cooling fans. Installing software and or firmware updates as directed by the manufacturer. General cleaning of equipment.
  • Assist other broadcast department technicians when necessary.
    • Maintain technical knowledge of arena’s scoreboard and clock systems. Be available to fill the position of Broadcast Technician 3 if required by the Broadcast Supervisor.
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair complex electronic, computer based, optical and mechanical broadcasting systems. Repair and maintain all broadcast and video production equipment in emergency and preventative situations.
  • Set up and operate various broadcasting equipment such as recording, video and editing equipment; check equipment for operational readiness; provide operational assistance/instruction to others as needed.
  • Provide mentoring and practical technical training to Broadcast Technician II.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum education level of: High School diploma or its equivalency.
  • 3 years of related work experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of theory of operation of all broadcast, presentation, and digital signage systems.
  • Advanced electronic troubleshooting skills.
  • Good soldering skills.
  • Good knowledge of Windows and Macintosh based computer operating systems.
  • General knowledge of computer networking.
  • Good practical knowledge of fiber optic transmission systems as they relate to broadcast industry.
  • Proficient in the repair of broadcast audio and video cabling.

Pay Scale: $42.50

Bonus: This position is not eligible for a bonus under the current bonus plan requirements.
