Dover Motor Speedway is a key location in the Speedway Motorsports nationwide network of entertainment venues. Speedway Motorsports maintains a consistent focus on four core principles:
• Take care of teammates
• Be known for remarkable events
• Make a positive impact on the community
• Profitably improve our business and operations
Facility Description
Dover Motor Speedway (DMS), located in the heart of Delaware, has hosted exciting racing and entertainment events for national and international guests for 55+ years. The green flag dropped on Dover Motor Speedway events on July 6, 1969, when Richard Petty won the Mason-Dixon 300. The one-mile concrete oval, aptly nicknamed “The Monster Mile,” now plays host to a NASCAR tripleheader weekend annually, dozens of other marquee events, and remains one of only 10 tracks in the United States to have hosted 100 or more NASCAR Cup Series events.
Through more than half a century of hosting the nation’s premier motorsports series, music festivals and other special events, approximately 15 million people have visited Dover, pumped up the local economy and taken away special memories that only a visit to the First State can provide.
Dover Motor Speedway is a wholly owned subsidiary of Speedway Motorsports (SM), a leading marketer, promoter and sponsor of motorsports entertainment in the United States. SM is one of the leading promoters, marketers, and sponsors of motorsports activities in the country, a substantial portion of which is NASCAR-related. SM operates 11 motorsports facilities at venues in markets such as Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Las Vegas, and Nashville and has promoted motorsports events since 1960.
