WHAT YOU’LL DO
The Senior Coordinator of Communications plays a key role in supporting all IMS PR activities. This individual works to help IMS implement plans necessary to reach a majority of its key PR goals. With this position, a special emphasis is placed on media outreach and engagement while ensuring written content, both online and for PR announcements/activities, maintains IMS brand standards.
In this role, you’ll be an important part of delivering top-tier experiences to fans, partners, and teams across the motorsports world. You’ll take ownership of key responsibilities, collaborate across departments, and bring energy and innovation to a fast-paced environment.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Play a leading role in the brainstorming and production of media events/stunts/press conferences. This often includes being IMS PR’s liaison to the operations, partnerships and legal teams.
- Conduct outreach with members of the media and lead IMS PR working groups as requested by Director, Communications.
- Assist in the implementation and completion of tasks associated with an overall marketing and media plan for Indianapolis Motor Speedway as directed by leadership.
- Partner with INDYCAR colleagues to implement the integrated public relations plan to promote the Indianapolis 500 and the entire Month of May in an effort to leverage the sport’s biggest stage to advance the series’ broader objectives. Provide similar support to NASCAR, IMSA and other series competing at IMS.
- Serve as liaison to IMS digital media team, ensuring proper amplification of IMS PR efforts across all channels.
- Gather information necessary to answer media inquiries regarding the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the annual events it puts on.
- Become familiar with key motorsports media and media in race markets and create beneficial relationships and support consistent communication with local, regional and national motorsports media as assigned.
- Assist with coordination of media operations for all IMS events, including event planning and implementation of logistics needed to create a positive working environment for the media while they cover IMS-related events.
- Draft IMS press releases and media advisories, as well as welcome letters and fan correspondence for senior IMS officials. Assist in writing, editing and production of IMS event and marketing materials.
- Coordinate e-mail replies to fans who contact IMS.
- Write and/or supervise production of “Tomorrow at the Track” and other event-specific communication for all IMS events.
- Provide track tours to dignitaries, and host groups that conduct special events at IMS.
- Other leadership and/or support responsibilities as outlined in the department’s annual public relations plan.

Required Experience & Skills:
- At least 5 years’ public relations, communications or related professional experience.
- Strong writing skills, with the ability to clearly and concisely convey on-brand messaging to a wide group of stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently and to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the ever-changing media landscape and identify new opportunities and outlets to further grow the sport.
- Demonstrate attention to detail, creativity, comfort with ambiguity, ability to manage change and balance competing/evolving priorities.

Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism/PR/Communications/Marketing or equivalent experience.
Leadership:
- This role does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
FLEXIBILITY & TRAVEL
- Standard hours are Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
- Extended hours required during race weekends and key event periods (especially May)
- Must have a flexible schedule.
- Must be willing to work unusual hours.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Extended periods of standing or walking (as needed).
- Comfort working indoors/outdoors and around event noise.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Fast-paced, collaborative office and event settings.
- The employee is faced with frequent interruptions and must meet with others regularly.
- The noise level in the work environment can be loud due to professional racing events.
