WHAT YOU’LL DO

As an LED Technician at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, you’ll play a hands-on role in delivering one of the most iconic visual experiences in global sports. This position is responsible for managing the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of large-scale LED video displays throughout the IMS campus. This includes paddock displays, scoring and timing boards, ribbon boards, and specialty video assets used during race events and major productions.

This role serves as a key technical owner of IMS’s LED infrastructure, supporting both race events and year-round operations.

 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install, operate, test, and maintain large-format LED displays for events, preventative maintenance, projects, repairs, and special productions
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on LED systems, including panels, power, data, and control components
  • Support events by monitoring LED performance and quickly troubleshooting technical issues on-site in real-time
  • Coordinate with IMS Productions, IT, Electrical, and Contractors/Service Providers/Vendors to ensure reliable power, signal, and network connectivity
  • Maintain LED inventory, documentation, and provide input on system improvements and long-term strategy
  • Installation and removal of temporary LED assets
  • Schedule and oversee additional labor to execute events, preventative maintenance, projects, repairs, and special productions
  • Other duties as assigned, often working alongside the AV team for events, preventative maintenance, projects, repairs, and special productions

 

WHAT YOU BRING

We’re looking for someone who’s ready to bring great effort every day and is committed to growing with us. This individual must be able to work calmly and effectively under time-sensitive, high-visibility conditions.

Required Experience & Skills:

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with large-scale LED display systems (Absen, Panasonic, Lighthouse, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of LED signal flow, power distribution, and video control systems
  • Experience troubleshooting electronic and mechanical failures in live-event environments
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams
  • Alignment with Penske Entertainment’s core values and standards

Education:

  • Associate degree or technical certification in electronics, AV technology, broadcast engineering, or related field preferred (or 3+ years of equivalent experience)

Leadership:

  • This role does not have direct supervisory responsibilities

 

FLEXIBILITY & TRAVEL

  • Standard hours are Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Extended hours required during race weekends and key event periods (especially May)
  • Limited travel may be required for training or vendor support
  • Our teams work together to create flexibility that supports life in and out of work

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs
  • Ability to climb ladders and operate boom lifts and personnel lifts
  • Comfortable working at heights and in outdoor environments

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Fast-paced live-event and production environment
  • Combination of indoor technical spaces and outdoor track, paddock, and grandstand locations
  • Exposure to weather, noise, and large crowds during events
