WHAT YOU’LL DO
The Engineer in Charge is responsible for managing the operation, upkeep, and performance of the mobile unit. This role requires technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to work both collaboratively within the engineering team and independently under pressure.
As a key part of our engineering group, you’ll ensure smooth production operations, provide technical leadership, and deliver high-quality experiences for fans, partners, and teams.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain the interior and exterior of the mobile unit, ensuring all systems are operational.
- Install, maintain, and repair all unit systems.
- Review and confirm remote orders at least 72 hours prior to events, resolving discrepancies in advance.
- Provide timely and accurate technical reports within 24 hours of event completion.
- Maintain a detailed unit maintenance log and ensure follow-up on repairs.
- Train and mentor new engineers and drivers.
- Schedule, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff.
- Lead the technical crew on-site, assisting with IMSP-owned or rented equipment.
- Support production staff with event setup and execution.
- Serve as IMSP’s on-site representative, acting in alignment with company values and interests.
- Consistently demonstrate professionalism and prioritize client satisfaction.
- Monitor technology trends, recommend equipment or capital needs, and provide input on the condition of the mobile unit and required parts.
- Build strong working relationships with colleagues, clients, and external partners.
- Other duties as assigned by IMSP leadership.

Required Experience & Skills:
- 5–7 years’ experience as an Engineer in Charge of large mobile units and large-scale remote productions (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of the theory and practice of mobile video production.
- Familiarity with 2110 standards and applications.
- Expertise in the design, implementation, maintenance, and use of complex broadcast and presentation systems in a remote truck environment, including interpreting technical manuals and drawings.
- Experience with broadcast equipment such as video recording systems (tape and disk-based), broadcast video cameras and monitors, video switchers, and non-linear video editing systems.
- Proficiency with broadcast test equipment used to evaluate analog and digital signals, including meters, waveform monitors, vectorscopes, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and computer communication interfaces.
- Knowledge of safety procedures, industry standards, and applicable laws, codes, regulations, and policies related to broadcast and remote television production.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to exercise tact, patience, and professionalism.
- Record-keeping and report preparation experience.
- Proficiency in basic computer operations including Microsoft Office Suite and email.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to supervise and lead crews.
- Self-motivated problem-solver with the ability to adapt in fast-paced, live-event environments.

Education
- High school diploma or GED required.
Leadership:
- This position provides on-site supervision of seasonal crew assigned to the mobile unit and is responsible for planning, organizing, prioritizing, and overseeing all remote truck activities.
FLEXIBILITY & TRAVEL
- Frequent travel is required to support live events and remote productions.
- Extended hours required during race weekends and key event periods (especially May)
- Teams work collaboratively to provide schedule flexibility when possible.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to lift up 50 lbs.
- Extended periods of standing or walking (as needed)
- Comfort working indoors/outdoors and around event noise
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Working conditions are mainly inside of the remote truck, although outside work may need to be performed based on business demands
- Must be adaptable and able to perform effectively under frequent, high-pressure, or emergency conditions.
