IOWA SPEEDWAY

Located near Des Moines, Iowa Speedway joined the NASCAR family of tracks in 2013. Known as the "Fastest Short Track on the Planet", Iowa Speedway plays host to two major race weekends a year, welcoming the ARCA Menards Series and the NTT INDYCAR Series. The track was designed by NASCAR Hall of Famer Rusty Wallace.

The NASCAR Finance team representing the Midwest is seeking a collaborative and growth-oriented professional for the position of Staff Accountant in Kansas. Our staff accountants are expected to not just be knowledgeable in accounting and finance, but also have excellent people skills to work directly with operational teammates, and support leadership. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, general ledger accounting, monthly accounting processes, monthly close processes, internal control adherence, local taxes, event accounting, third party inventory systems, planning and being the ‘go to’ person for transaction and process support.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties as assigned.

  • Assist Accounting Directors and Managers to ensure the financial objectives of the organization are being met with timely and accurate results.
  • Assist with performing business analysis for providing recommendations for revenue opportunities and cost efficiencies. 
  • Assist with preparing financial updates for leadership meetings related to major events and business planning functions. 
  • Assist with the development of budgets and forecasts with cost center managers and business unit leaders.   
  • Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles including related balance sheet, revenue and expense analysis. 
  • Proficiency in balance sheet account reconciliations and managing balances including calculations and follow up.
  • Complete assigned duties timely for month end close process and financial statement review to ensure all financial transactions are recorded in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. 
  • Participate in initiatives that focus on improving accounting and financial analysis processes.
  • Assist in financial analysis using company systems and tools. 
  • Special projects, as necessary. Cash handling and related controls.
  • Liaison with Central Services in Corporate Finance as needed.
  • Provide support for business processes that integrate directly with accounting functions including ticketing and corporate sales systems. 

Qualifications

  • Degree in Accounting from an accredited university with at least two years accounting related experience.  Must demonstrate a clear understanding and application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Ability to effectively communicate with teammates of various backgrounds and skills and resolve issues.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, variances, and percentages.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Strong analytical skills and reasoning ability is required.
  • Ability to identify accounting problems and generate reasonable solutions.
  • Proficient on Company-provided hardware and software.
  • Experience with accounting and/or financial reporting systems – Workday or Adaptive experience a plus. Strong knowledge of Microsoft office products with advance knowledge of Excel.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) not required, but preferred candidates will have the desire for continuous professional improvement.
  • In addition to the skills listed above, must have strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. 
  • Must have strong experience in budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis/modeling, and a reasonable understanding of internal controls. Also, must be able to work within tight deadlines.
  • Strong organizational, and time management skills are required.
  • Must be able to communicate with management at all levels and build and maintain working relationships with business personnel and other finance groups and provide subject matter expertise and assistance.
  • Must maintain a positive attitude and work ethic.
  • This position will be required to work overtime as needed, to meet the objectives of the position and the department.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
  • Travel will be required for about 15% of the time for this position for travelling to major events at other facilities, and support accounting and finance functions as needed periodically during regular business hours.
  • Ability to work weekends as needed.
