Facility Operations/Event Staff: Grounds Crew/Turf Management
SUMMARY: Maintain grounds in clean, safe, and orderly manner.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Mows, edges, trims lawns and border areas using riding mower, hand or power equipment.
  • Removes weeds and debris from walkways, culverts, stairways, roadways, planters and parking areas by hand or via herbicide application.
  • Installs or replaces turf.
  • Water plants and grass as needed and apply fertilizer using hand or power equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
 
ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS: Hours will vary but will include all hours of operation, evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary to attend events and to fulfill job responsibilities. Acceptance of work hours customary in the field of sport/entertainment is necessary.




QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.
 
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but involved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
 
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Florida drivers license.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift/carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to clearly see surrounding terrain to allow for safe operation of assigned equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.  The employee is frequently exposed to vibration and occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud but can be very loud at times.
