Facility Operations/Event Staff: Heavy Equipment Operator

POSITION TITLE: Facilities Team, Seasonal
DEPARTMENT: Facilities
REPORTS TO: Facilities Team Foremen
POSITION LOCATION: Indianapolis, IN
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
WORKER CATEGORY: Seasonal (Temporary)

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Facilities Department is responsible for curating and general upkeep of the historic grounds and surrounding properties. Must display enthusiasm for and commitment to the company and the Vision, Mission, and Values. Valid driver's license is preferred. Seasonal Facilities positions at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway are broken down into four divisions: Labor, Landscape, Grounds, and Paint. Employees are required to work outdoors regardless of weather conditions.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Labor
  • Move equipment and supplies (bike rack, pallets, boxes of product)
  • Move furniture and set spaces for special events (tables, chairs, etc.)
  • Trash pickup
  • Miscellaneous labor as needed

Landscape
  • Mow, weed eat, mulch
  • Trim hedges, shrubs, and trees
  • Maintain parking lots and roads
  • Miscellaneous landscaping as needed

Grounds
  • Sweep outdoor spaces
  • Clean restrooms
  • Clean hospitality spaces as needed
  • Prepare facility for events
  • Miscellaneous grounds work as needed

Paint
  • Scrape and prepare track walls before racing events
  • Paint road course curbing
  • Stripe parking lots and roads
  • Paint walls
  • Miscellaneous painting projects as needed

WORK HOURS:
  • Work hours are 7:15 am – 4:00 pm Monday through Friday, with opportunities for overtime during the event season.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Education
  • High school graduate or equivalent experience.

Skills/Experience
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
  • Self-starter and must exhibit a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work under pressure with time constraints.
  • Ability to work with multiple teams to meet the expectations of the company.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job:



  • The position requires lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • The position requires working outdoors in the elements.
  • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • The position involves walking, climbing stairs, and standing for long periods of time throughout the day.

  • The employee will frequently work outdoors, which requires physical strength and stamina to endure extreme heat, cold, rain and other conditions.
  • The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment can be loud, due to professional racing events.
