The Director of Finance is responsible for leading and executing all aspects of the company’s accounting and finance operations. This is a unique opportunity to build out the full financial capabilities of a digital sports media platform, The IX women’s sports newsletter and its newsrooms, including The Next, already performing at a mature level in content and editorial levels, without a peer in women’s sports. This leader will guide the company’s financing strategy as it builds from a seed round investment. The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter with proven experience with capital raise processes, financial accounting, and FP&A. This position will be one of two senior business roles brought on and will be expected to be a major contributor in shaping the company’s overall business strategy, particularly in shaping the financial outlook to secure and maximize investment.
Responsibilities:
- Lay the groundwork for future company growth, identifying proper financial systems and processes to implement for accounting, budgeting, FP&A and other financial functions.
- Manage and handle all accounting operations including: Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Complete book closing processes
- Direct and manage the Budget process, including preparation of an annual Budget.
- Prepare financial forecasts and reports, including financial forecasting and reporting required to support future capital raise processes.
- Manage Ad Sales revenue recognition, ensuring contract compliance.
- Manage operating expenses and capital expenditures.
- Monitor and project cash flow and ensure it is appropriate for the Company’s operations.
- Maintain understanding of The IX's financial position and act accordingly to identify and prevent issues.
- Work hand-in-hand with Director of Sales to build a comprehensive business plan for the company’s future growth strategy.
- Lead strategy and planning for future capital raise processes.
- Bring a collaborative and entrepreneurial approach to the role.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field; MBA, CPA, CMA or Advanced degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5+ years of accounting and/or finance experience
- Experience crafting a strategy and leading a company through acquiring rounds of investment
- Proven experience with financial accounting
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- Experience with creating financial statements
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
- Excellent accounting software skills both as a user and an administrator
- Experience working independently in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
- Strong attention to detail is required
