The Role:
The Frederick Flying Cows professional basketball team volunteer program offers an unmatched opportunity to gain hands-on experience within a professional sports organization. As an Assistant Volunteer Coach, you will work directly with the coaching staff and players, assisting in practices, player development, and team logistics. You will have the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of coaching at the professional level while being part of an organization that is rapidly growing and making an impact in the Frederick community.
The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and the ability to take direction while maintaining a positive and professional attitude. Candidates with previous experience as a player or coach are highly preferred.
Assistant Volunteer Coaches are required to attend all Flying Cows home games, practices, and team events, as directed by the Head Coach and General Manager.
The position is an unpaid, volunteer opportunity that provides invaluable experience for individuals looking to grow in the fields of coaching, sports management, and player development.
THIS IS AN IN-PERSON OPPORTUNITY! Candidates must already reside in the Frederick area and be willing to commute daily or fully relocate to the area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist coaching staff during practices, games, and player development sessions
- Support the coordination of team logistics, including travel preparation for home and away games
- Help organize and manage practice drills, workouts, and team meetings
- Provide feedback and encouragement to players to support their growth and performance
- Assist with day-to-day team operations and ensure efficient communication among players and staff
- Represent the organization with professionalism at all times
Basic Expectations & Requirements:
- Experience as a player or coach (preferred)
- Must reside in or commute to Frederick, Maryland
- Ability to take direction, learn, and adapt quickly
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Available for practices, home games, and team events
- Passionate about basketball, development, and contributing to a professional team environment

Who are the Flying Cows?
The Frederick Flying Cows are a professional basketball organization competing in the USBL. The regular season consists of 24 games (12 home and 12 away) from March through May, with playoffs in June. USBL offers a high level of play—just a notch below the NBA G League—and provides a competitive option for players building toward elite-level opportunities.
The Flying Cows completed their second season in June 2025. In back-to-back seasons, they’ve clinched divisional championships, recorded 20+ win seasons, and led the league in attendance.

The league regular season runs twenty-four (24) games long from March – May, with 12 home and 12 away games. Playoffs are in June. The league is positioning itself as an alternative option for players who might be playing in professional leagues oversees and are hoping to build their careers towards playing against the highest possible competition. The USBL play is high quality – just a notch below the level of the NBA G-league.

As we think about putting together our team, we have broken the operation down into four (3) areas of focus: Basketball Operations, Business Operations, Sales & Marketing.
- We need to create and manage a High-Quality entertainment product that is appealing to a broad age range. We want TBL basketball home games to be a high-quality fun and entertaining event that people will enjoy, both basketball fans and non-basketball fans.
- We need to put together an excellent Basketball team and basketball organization.
- We need to build a Community organization that is invested in Frederick County. Our goal is basketball, over time, to be part of the fabric of the community, and a team that the people of Frederick are proud of.
