Business Operations Manager
(Frederick, Maryland)

  • How To Apply: Complete Teamwork Application and Email [email protected] with a resume, brief introduction of yourself, and examples of relevant work
  • Full Time Position
  • Candidates MUST reside in or commute daily to Frederick, Maryland

The Role:
The Business Operations Manager will serve as the right hand to the General Manager and play a critical role in overseeing and executing the day-to-day business functions of the Frederick Flying Cows — both on and off the court. This individual will help ensure smooth operations across key departments, including sponsorships, ticketing, marketing, game-day logistics, community engagement, basketball operations, and more.

This role requires a highly motivated, organized, proactive, and versatile early-career professional who can manage multiple priorities while helping to steer the organization toward growth and long-term success. It is a hands-on, fast-paced position that demands leadership, strategic thinking, and strong follow-through.

The ideal candidate is eager to learn, open to training, and ready to work closely with the General Manager to ensure the team operates efficiently and consistently delivers a high-quality experience for fans, sponsors, and community partners. In addition, this person should be capable of independently managing and leading projects, staff, volunteers, and interns — and be ready to "take the reins" when needed.

The Flying Cows are not strictly a basketball organization - we are an event and entertainment asset to the Frederick community. In addition to the basketball season that runs all spring, the season hosts events all year long such as camps, clinics, festivals, a golf tournament, a high school tournament and much more!

This is a unique opportunity for someone passionate about sports, live events, fan experience, and community building — someone who is ready to step into a visible and impactful leadership role with a growing professional basketball organization. This position offers unmatched hands-on experience in operations, leadership, and event execution — and the opportunity to make an impact on a young and ambitious franchise.

THIS IS AN IN-PERSON OPPORTUNITY!
Candidates must be prepared to live in, relocate or commute daily to Frederick, MD. This is a full time position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the General Manager’s right hand in managing and coordinating all business functions of the organization.
  • Lead the execution of key business initiatives, including group ticket sales, sponsorship activation, promotions, and fan engagement.
  • Oversee game-day operations, ensuring seamless coordination across staff, vendors, and partners.
  • Lead on execution of off-season events, camps and clinics.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the office, including fan communication, inventory, storage, organization, and general administration.
  • Directly manage all internship programs and associate-level staff, including recruitment, training, and supervision.
  • Collaborate with all departments — including marketing, operations, merchandising, basketball operations, and finance — to support cohesive organizational performance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with sponsors, vendors, community partners, group leaders, and season ticket holders.
  • Support the General Manager in financial tracking, strategic planning, staffing decisions, and overall organizational development.
  • Assist the GM and Head Coach with league logistics and basketball operations support as needed.
  • Represent the Flying Cows at community events, appearances, and outreach efforts to strengthen brand visibility and goodwill.
  • Assist in hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising event and game-day staff.
  • Embrace and embody a “whimsical” mindset — bringing creativity and bold thinking to continue the Flying Cows’ reputation as a unique and engaging sports organization.
  • Maintain a positive, team-oriented attitude while contributing to the organization’s mission and growth.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the General Manager and Ownership.

More about TBL and Frederick Flying Cows:
The BasketballLeague (TBL), www.thebasketballleague.net,  is an eight (8) year old league playing throughout North America. In the Spring of 2025 there were 32 teams in the league in the USA and Canada  in small to medium sized markets. Frederick Flying Cows were one of about a half-dozen new teams that joined the TBL in 2024. The league regular season runs twenty-four (24) games long from March – May, with 12 home and 12 away games. Playoffs are in June. The league is positioning itself as an alternative option for players who might be playing in professional leagues oversees and are hoping to build their careers towards playing against the highest possible competition. The TBL play is high quality – just a notch below the level of the NBA G-league. The league has already had a few players make it to the NBA.

We are a well-prepared group with the goal of building a championship quality organization! We believe there are three (3) key legs of the stool required to build a quality franchise. As we think about putting together our team, we have broken the operation down into four (3) areas of focus: Basketball Operations, Business Operations, Sales & Marketing

  • We need to create and manage a High-Quality entertainment product that is appealing to a broad age range. We want TBL basketball home games to be a high-quality fun and entertaining event that people will enjoy, both basketball fans and non-basketball fans.
  • We need to put together an excellent Basketball team and basketball organization. To this end, we are interviewing head coaches now and hope to hire someone by June of this year so that they will have a full year to build and plan a team.
  • We need to build a Community organization that is invested in Frederick County. Our goal is for TBL basketball, over time, to be part of the fabric of the community, and a team that the people of Frederick are proud of.
