  • Performs sports grounds maintenance for University fields campus wide on a team of well skilled sports field professionals.
  • Operates equipment associated with grounds maintenance including riding mowers, aerators, blowers, gators and loaders.
  • Monitors all equipment for which they are responsible and ensures that it is working properly.
  • Ensures that irrigation utilized in the areas is working appropriately at all times. 
  • Collaborates with the crew leader to set watering times, locations and reports any malfunctions in the irrigation systems.
  • Responds to grounds maintenance emergencies as they arise to maintain the safety of students, faculty and staff on campus.
  • Handles the direct maintenance of grounds areas on campus. 
  • Mow and trim grass including close mowing, painting of lines, logos, edging, mulching, prune/trim trees, shrubs, plant, water and fertilize shrubs, flowers, tress, turf.
  • Perform maintenance on grounds equipment, tools, irrigation systems, and campus signage.
  • Weed, both mechanically and chemically; pick up and remove litter, leaves, debris.

Experience Needed
  • Sports turf experience a must.
  • Working knowledge of the maintenance of sports fields; cultural maintenance practices for sports field turfgrass.
  • Ability to operate all types of grounds maintenance equipment to include mowers, tractors, small gas powered equipment.
  • Understand and follow specific oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work under adverse weather conditions (heat).
  • Ability and willingness to engage in extensive/constant walking, standing, stooping, bending, squatting and lifting up to 75 lbs during work shift.
  • Strong level of understanding of the college sports requirements for field layouts and markings.
