Title: Mascot
Salary: Contracted ($150 per game)
Report to: Senior Manager, Game Entertainment
The Portland Winterhawks are seeking a motivated, energetic, and talented individual to enhance the experiences of Winterhawks fans by performing as the team mascot. The ideal candidate will support the Portland Winterhawks primary mascot, Tommy, by representing the team in a high-energy, family friendly, and community focused manner.
This role will appear at select home games, community events, sponsor engagements, and special appearances. The performer must embody the personality, style, and character traits of the mascot while maintaining a positive and approachable presence.
There will be an in-person audition for this role conducted after the interview process.
Job Responsibilities:
• Perform as the Portland Winterhawks mascot at designated home games, community events, and other special events.
• Maintain the established character identity, movement style, energy level, and performance approach to ensure brand consistency
• Read social cues to understand the level of engagement each fan may want
• Participate in on-ice promotions, media opportunities, and photo moments
• Oversee proper care, handling, cleaning, and storage of costume pieces and accessories after each use
• Provide support for non-game appearances during the off-season or community initiatives
• Participate in all scheduled rehearsals, pre-game meetings, and training sessions as required
REQUIREMENTS
• Prior performance, dance, theater, cheer, or athletic movement experience preferred
• Ability to express personality and emotion non-verbally; as Tommy does not speak
• Skating experience preferred; but no required
• Dynamic, energetic personality with a passion for sports entertainment
• Dependable, punctual, professional, and comfortable engaging with the public
• Ability to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to ad-lib and improvise in a fast-paced, live setting
• Ability to contribute to creative content and skit ideation
