The Northern Kentucky Convention Center is hiring an Event Manager for our Operations department. The ideal candidate is a detailed, organized, enthusiastic, and hardworking individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can manage full-time, part-time, and temporary setup and housekeeping staff. This is a supervisory role that also serves as Manager on Duty during events. There are three Event Managers who work as a team, and this position is one of them. You’ll be responsible for running the floor, directing event staff, coordinating housekeeping, and serving as the on-site liaison for the client during the event—not planning the event itself.
The schedule varies depending on event activity and includes nights, weekends, and occasional slower periods between busy stretches. We are not a sports facility, our events include corporate meetings, association gatherings, trade shows, some dance or gymnastic competitions, and more.

Duties and Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
- Assist in the scheduling of employees and daily operation of the Center.
- Execute work orders to ensure all details are accurate and complete. Perform final inspection of daily tasks ensuing smooth transition to the next shift.
- In a pro-active fashion, provide guidance, leadership, and training to Set Up and Housekeeping departments ensuring standards of cleanliness, quality function rooms and services are met on a consistent basis.
- Maintain communication with all members of the department regarding daily operations.
- Meet and exceed customer expectations as lead liaison between client, building staff and all departments during events.
- Act as on-site liaison to outside contractors making sure they are working within Center guidelines, to include decorating, drayage, audio visual, security, shipping companies and Operations Dept. supply providers.
- Participate in development and refinement of building operational plans incorporating team management philosophy through the use of total quality management tools of continuous improvement.
- Responsible for executing inspections on a regular basis and report repairs, maintenance and/or projects needing completion.
- Understand and inform staff of building policies, codes and laws of the state per fire marshal requirements.
- Ability to execute the Center’s Emergency Procedures and Evacuation Plan.
Qualifications:
- One to two years of experience preferably in a convention center, hotel, public assembly facility or in exhibition/event/meeting planning.
- Knowledge of hospitality industry is a plus. General knowledge of the meeting and exhibition industry, inclusive of facility housekeeping procedures and standards.
- Good interpersonal communication skills, both written and oral, ability to work under pressure with ease and composure; ability to learn and make decisions quickly, retain information and pay attention to detail.
- Proven planning, organizational, time management skills with ability to demonstrate supervisory and leadership abilities. Good understanding of team concept and total quality management.
- Flexibility in hours and days available for scheduled events, including weekends and holidays.
- Extensive walking throughout facility as well as ability to climb stairs required.
