Want to build a career in sports? Get hands-on experience marketing some of Houston’s biggest sporting events and community initiatives.
The Harris County–Houston Sports Authority is seeking a creative, motivated student who wants real-world experience in sports marketing, digital marketing, event promotion, and campaign strategy. HCHSA helps bring major sporting events to Houston and Harris County, giving our interns the opportunity to work across different sports, events, venues, and community initiatives.
As a Marketing Intern, you’ll work directly with the HCHSA Marketing Team to help promote events and initiatives throughout Houston and Harris County. From developing marketing campaigns and presentations to supporting event promotions, digital content, and merchandising, you'll contribute to real projects that reach Houston sports fans and help showcase Houston as a premier sports destination.
You’ll have the opportunity to attend events, contribute ideas, build your portfolio, and develop your skills across multiple areas of sports marketing, all within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Work alongside the Marketing Team to support the development and execution of marketing campaigns, events, and initiatives
- Help create and update PowerPoint presentations for event pitches, organizational initiatives, board meetings, speaking engagements, and other projects
- Assist with the planning, sourcing, inventory, and distribution of promotional items, merchandise, and event giveaways
- Support the development of marketing materials and promotional assets for events, community programs, and organizational initiatives
- Support event marketing efforts before, during, and after events
- Assist with email marketing, including drafting, building, and scheduling newsletters and promotional campaigns
- Assist with website updates and help maintain accurate, engaging, and up-to-date digital content
- Collaborate with social media, communications, creative team members on integrated campaigns
- Participate in brainstorming sessions for campaigns, events, promotions, and new ways to engage Houston sports fans
- Research industry trends, audience behaviors, marketing strategies, and opportunities to engage target audiences
- Track marketing performance and assist with campaign analytics and reporting
- Proofread and review marketing materials for accuracy, consistency, and brand alignment
- Help ensure marketing materials follow HCHSA brand guidelines and visual standards
- Bring ideas to the table, be open to feedback, and apply coaching from team members to grow professionally
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Sports Management, or a related field
- Passion for sports and an interest in sports marketing, digital marketing, event promotion, and fan engagement
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Familiarity with email marketing, websites, social media, and other digital marketing platforms
- Strong understanding of marketing and advertising trends in the sports industry
- Creative thinker with strong attention to detail
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple assignments and content in various stages of development
- Strong time management, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Team player with the ability to collaborate across multiple projects
- Basic understanding of marketing strategy and how different channels work together to build a brand and support a campaign
- Eagerness to learn, receive feedback, and grow professionally
- Available to work Monday through Friday, with some weekends and evenings required based on event calendar.
- Ability to work in the HCHSA office, with flexibility provided to accommodate class, school and additional commitments
COMPENSATION
This is an unpaid internship offered for academic credit only. Interns are not eligible for HCHSA employee benefits.
