Event Summary
The AAU Junior Olympic Games are known as the largest youth multi-sport event in the United States. It consists of roughly 15,000 youth participants from around the country competing in 12+ sports and includes an action-packed Celebration of Athletes. In attendance are teams, coaches, family, and friends, many of whom make the trip to Houston their family's summer vacation. This summer will mark the 55th anniversary and the 3rd time Houston has hosted the Games, so the bar is set high. Help us exceed expectations and show the AAU everything the the city has to offer. Position Description
This position will support the operations team in various aspects of event planning and onsite event execution. Work will be done in a fast-paced, results-driven environment let by an innovative and experienced staff of event and marketing professionals. This role will serve as an independent contractor between May 15 - August 15, 2021, with a specific focus on the 2021 AAU Junior Olympic Games.

  • Attend all in-person meetings and site visits as required to complete the job
  • Keep accurate records and clear documentation for all areas and responsibilities assigned 
  • Identify and communicate volunteer needs to appropriate staff members to ensure the needs of the event are being met
  • Provide support to the department leadership
  • Work with all local restaurants and caterers to secure all meals for officials, volunteers and staff
  • Schedule and coordinate food and drink deliveries to all competition venues
  • Source all supplies and coordinate all layouts/setup for hospitality areas of each venue
  • Coordinate food and beverage onsite deliveries to AAU officials and staff when needed

Additional Expectations
  • Available to support onsite throughout the entirety of the event
    • This includes but is not limited to load in, load out, and competition days of the event
  • Maintain high motivation, focus and standards throughout the project term

Additional Qualifications
  • Relevant job experience (1 - 3 years) preferred
  • Ability to communicate both orally and through written work a must
  • Ability to multi-task on several projects in various stages of completion
  • Apply organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills consistently
  • The applicant must be an enthusiastic team player with a competitive drive willing to work flexible hours  to include evenings, holidays and weekends when needed - physical requirements on occasion.
