The Role:
The Frederick Flying Cows professional basketball team internship program is an experience and opportunity like no other in professional sports! As the Fall Events Intern, you will gain hands-on experience and receive tangible real-world experience with direct responsibility in the organization. You will not only receive the opportunity to learn and observe how a growing professional sports organization operates in the offseason… but also be a part of the Flying Cows as we head into our fourth season in the 94x50 league!
The ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude and will be open to performing a wide variety of tasks in order to learn what is required to plan and execute high-profile community events, sponsor activations, and the largest single-day event on our calendar: Cowfest. We strongly prefer candidates who are either from or currently living in the Frederick area.
Interns are required to work all Frederick Flying Cows offseason events, youth programs, community appearances, and Cowfest, as directed by the General Manager.
The internship program is an unpaid position that can be used for college credit. The role is entry level and candidates must be willing to work at a high level in order to successfully fulfill their duties and gain a plethora of experience.
THIS IS AN IN-PERSON OPPORTUNITY! Candidates must already reside in the Frederick area and be willing to commute daily or fully relocate to the area.
Who are the Flying Cows?
The Frederick Flying Cows are a professional basketball organization competing in the 94x50 league, and one of the founding franchises of the league. The 94x50 season runs from March – May, with playoffs in June. The league is positioning itself as an alternative option for players who might be playing in professional leagues overseas and are hoping to build their careers towards playing against the highest possible competition. The quality of play in the 94x50 league is high – just a notch below the level of the NBA G-league. Heading into our fourth season, the Flying Cows have built a successful on-court product as well as a one-of-a-kind brand off the court.
About Cowfest:
Cowfest is our signature offseason community event. Held Sunday, October 25th, 2026 at the Frederick Fairgrounds, the 2nd Annual Cowfest is a day packed with fun games, booths, entertainment, food, drinks, and community. This year, we are officially chasing a world record: the most people dressed in cow onesies at one time. In 2025 we came incredibly close with 1,048 participants, and this year we're going all the way. As the Fall Events Intern, Cowfest is the largest project on your plate and one of the most rewarding events you can be a part of in Frederick.
What you can expect…
We are a small team, meaning our interns will work cross-functionally, be involved in all aspects of the organization, and have the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of areas. With that, the Fall Events Intern will prioritize the planning, execution, and follow-up of every offseason event, with Cowfest and the ramp to the 2027 season as the top priorities. As the Flying Cows Fall Events Intern, you may work on the following, but not limited to:
Key Responsibilities:
- Cowfest Planning & Execution: Serve as a key member of the Cowfest planning team, assisting with vendor coordination, booth layout, volunteer scheduling, entertainment logistics, sponsor activations, and day-of execution at the Frederick Fairgrounds.
- World Record Attempt: Help coordinate the logistics of our official Guinness World Record attempt for the most people dressed in cow onesies at one time, including participant registration, headcount tracking, and coordination with record officials.
- Camp & Community Event Operations: Assist in the setup, execution, and tear-down of Junior Flyers camps, clinics, community events, and appearances throughout the fall.
- Vendor & Facility Coordination: Help coordinate with vendors, facilities, entertainment providers, and community partners on scheduling, contracts, equipment, and logistics for all offseason events.
- Volunteer Management: Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers for Cowfest and other large-scale events.
- Sponsor Activation: Support sponsor-driven initiatives at Cowfest and other offseason events, ensuring partners receive value and visibility while enhancing fan experiences.
- Event Marketing Support: Work alongside the marketing team to promote Cowfest and other events through social media, email, grassroots outreach, and community partnerships.
- Season Prep: Assist with early events planning for the 2027 season including gameday entertainment, halftime shows, promotional nights, and community appearances.
- Event Recap & Reporting: Capture highlights from offseason events through photos and videos, and help compile post-event recaps and attendance reports.
Basic Expectations & Requirements
- Actively pursuing a college degree or recent graduate.
- Must be located in the Frederick, MD area.
- Report directly to the General Manager, Operations Manager, Sales Manager, and Marketing Associate, and fulfill all duties as requested.
- Represent the organization, as needed, at events and appearances.
- Provide excellent customer service to all existing and potential fans.
- Professionally represent the organization at business and community functions.
- Work as a member of the TEAM, and Have Fun!
- Attend all offseason events, camps, community appearances, and Cowfest to ensure great experiences for fans.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
The internship program is designed to provide training where candidates will gain valuable skills that assist them as they progress in their sports careers.
Who are we looking for?
We are seeking motivated, energetic candidates with the goal of building a career in the world of entertainment and athletics. Candidates should be willing to travel and to work odd hours. This is a fun and rewarding opportunity for candidates who don't require much structure and are willing to take risks and try new things.
Who You Are:
- Current college student or recent graduate with a passion for sports, live events, and community engagement.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to juggle many moving parts at once.
- Comfortable working long days and weekends, especially around large events like Cowfest.
- Strong communicator, both written and verbal, and comfortable interacting with vendors, sponsors, volunteers, and fans.
- Creative problem solver who is calm under pressure.
- Willing to get your hands dirty with setup, tear-down, and event execution.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and comfortable learning new tools.
- Availability for offseason events, camps, community appearances, and Cowfest weekend.

We are a well-prepared group with the goal of building a championship-quality organization! We believe there are three (3) key legs of the stool required to build a quality franchise.
- We need to create and manage a high-quality entertainment product that is appealing to a broad age range. We want 94x50 basketball home games to be a high-quality, fun, and entertaining event that people, both basketball fans and non-basketball fans, will enjoy.
- We need to put together an excellent basketball team and basketball organization.
- We need to build a community organization that is invested in Frederick County. Our goal is basketball, over time, to be part of the fabric of the community and a team that the people of Frederick are proud of.
As we think about putting together our team, we have broken the operation down into three (3) areas of focus: Basketball Operations, Business Operations, and Sales & Marketing. We are looking for interns to assist in all areas of the business. Building on what we've built so far will be both demanding and rewarding.
