Drum Corps International is looking for an energetic, creative individual to join our Marketing/Communications team! As a DCI Communications intern, you’ll dive into the fast-paced world of event management and marketing, working on real-world projects that shape the way we engage with audiences and fans. You’ll get hands-on experience creating and sharing content for a top-tier organization while collaborating with a team of passionate professionals.
We are looking for someone who lives to write, hustles by default, and is exceptionally detail-oriented. This person will be a creative mind with an insatiable curiosity to learn all there is to know about the marketing/communications field for a non-profit organization.
Role Responsibilities
● Excellent verbal and written communicator: You’ll assist in the creation and editing of journalistic content to keep drum corps fans engaged and informed.
● Proactive and self-driven, yet also a collaborative team player: You’ll work with staff to interview and report on high-profile people and events within the DCI universe while working under lightning-fast deadlines.
● Strategic thinker with an unrivaled attention to detail: You’ll assist in the research, planning, implementation and evaluation of the ongoing editorial calendar and internal and external communications campaigns.
● Knowledge of web content management systems and social media: You’ll help upload, format, schedule and publish content across our many marketing/communications channels.
● Other marketing/communications-related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Qualifications
● Currently enrolled in undergraduate courses (or a recent graduate) in journalism, communications, or a related field.
● Ability to write accurate, compelling headlines, short news blurbs and feature-length articles.
● Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Google Docs.
● The ability to take constructive criticism from others while remaining on-point, engaging and appealing in your work.
● A passion for interviewing, writing and editing.
Bonus Points
● Experience working for a college newspaper or coursework in news writing and reporting. Experience in sports journalism.
● Prior internship experience, especially for a news outlet, magazine, professional website or in public/media relations.
● Understanding of basic HTML formatting.
● Basic photography skills and experience with Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop.

Special Information
● This is a paid internship/seasonal position. (Learning objectives can be provided for internship requirements.)
● Candidate will be required to have a clear background check for the position. This background check will be provided at DCI expense.
● Candidate will be required to take the DCI Safety Training course, also provided at DCI expense.
● Candidate will be responsible for their travel to Indianapolis and housing if they are not local. Remote work may be considered for this position in lieu of relocating to Indianapolis for the summer.
● Candidate will be responsible for transportation to and from the office and airport (if applicable).
● DCI will provide a laptop for use during the duration of the program if needed.
