Position Summary
The COPA Play Programs & Events Manager is responsible for the overall growth, operation, and delivery of all Competitions Division programming, including leagues, tournaments, open play, special events, and future technology-based offerings. This role serves as both a strategic leader and operational manager, ensuring a world-class experience for participants, staff, members, and guests while driving participation, revenue growth, and community engagement. The role combines program leadership, event operations, staff development, marketing support, and community growth.
Core Responsibilities
Program Operations & Event Management
- Oversee all Competitions Division programs including:
- Adult Leagues
- Youth Leagues
- Tournaments
- Open Play
- Special Events
- Technology-Based Competitions
- Serve as Manager on Duty during competitions, tournaments, and special events.
- Develop seasonal schedules and operational plans.
- Manage team communications, scheduling adjustments, disciplinary matters, and participant concerns.
- Ensure consistent and high-quality participant experience across all programming.
Growth & Community Development
- Grow participation in all leagues, tournaments, and open play offerings.
- Develop strategies to improve participant retention and referrals.
- Build relationships with local clubs, schools, organizations, and community partners.
- Identify opportunities for new programming and community engagement initiatives.
- Lead grassroots outreach efforts to increase awareness of COPA Play programming.
Staff Leadership & Development
- Recruit, onboard, train, and supervise Competitions Division staff, Field Supervisors, and event personnel.
- Create staff development opportunities and leadership pathways.
- Schedule and manage staff coverage for all programming.
- Establish performance expectations and provide coaching and feedback.
Event & Competition Oversight
- Manage all aspects of league and tournament operations.
- Coordinate game-day logistics and staffing.
- Support referee operations and communication with Referee Assignors.
- Ensure policies, procedures, and competition rules are consistently enforced.
- Report incidents, injuries, and disciplinary matters appropriately.
Marketing & Promotions
- Collaborate with Marketing and Sales teams to promote programs and events.
- Assist with content collection including photos, videos, testimonials, and participant highlights.
- Support email campaigns, social media initiatives, and community outreach efforts.
- Create promotional timelines for seasonal programming launches.
Innovation & Program Development
- Work with the Director of COPA Play to launch new offerings and experiences.
- Utilize COPA technology platforms to create unique programming opportunities.
- Evaluate program performance and recommend improvements.
- Assist in developing policies, procedures, and operational standards.
