About Us: Big State Sports is a media company specializing in live broadcasts of high school athletics in New Jersey. We strive to shine a light on all of the great things happening in New Jersey high school sports, and pride ourselves on providing positive coverage of athletes and communities. From Friday night football, to middle of the week track meets and everything in between, we'll broadcast it live, and free to view on our YouTube channel.
The Position: We are seeking experienced, reliable, and experienced camera operators to join our crews for our continuously expanding coverage of high school sports across New Jersey. While we cover every varsity sport, the most opportunities will be available for football broadcasts during the fall season. However, if you're interested in filming other sports as well, we encourage you to still apply. Training is occasionally provided for unfamiliar sports.
Though our offices are in Randolph, NJ, we are looking for talent all over the state as our coverage spans the entirety of New Jersey.
This would be a freelance job, and if hired we would try to give you around a week's notice before any assignments.
Responsibilities:
- Operate a primary game camera during live broadcasts at various high schools, venues, and events.
- Follow live gameplay smoothly and consistently.
- Incorporate a variety of shots when appropriate (tight shots, celebrations, coaches, etc.) to enhance the broadcast.
- Take minor direction from the producer and role supervisors while also anticipating game flow and key moments.
- Assist with setup, operation, and breakdown of camera and basic production equipment with direction.
- Maintain broadcast quality under a variety of weather and field conditions.
- Work with commentators to shoot postgame interviews on the field or court.
We’re looking for individuals with experience operating cameras for live sports or similar events who can balance following game action while adding depth and storytelling to the broadcast. The ideal candidate is attentive, dependable, and understands the pace of live sports. They should be able to stay focused for long periods, react quickly to changing play, and take pride in delivering smooth, creative content.
