Position Summary:
The Vegas Golden Knights are seeking a communications executive to serve as Vice President, Communications. This role will lead the organization’s external and internal communications strategy, including media relations, public relations, and crisis communications, while serving as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and Hockey Operations.

This position will oversee the communications vertical and act as a strategic partner and advocate for the organization’s content teams. While not directly managing the content teams, this role will help build and reinforce a content-centric mindset across the organization—ensuring alignment between earned media, hockey and organizational storytelling, and broader digital content efforts—while maintaining a clear focus on the core responsibilities of communications, media relations and public affairs across the portfolio (Vegas Golden Knights, Henderson Silver Knights, Vegas Knight Hawks, Lee’s Family Forum, City National Arena, America First Center, as well as, Black Knight Sports and Entertainment) while providing broader communications support to Foley Entertainment Group and Foley Hospitality Group.

Position Highlights:
Leadership
·         Provide strategic direction, inspirational leadership, and a steady executive presence for the VGK, HSK and VKH Communications team.
·         Provide communications support and guidance for Foley Entertainment Group and Foley Hospitality Group.
·         Foster strong, collaborative relationships across all VGK, HSK and VKH business teams and with all business team leaders.
·         Serve as a trusted communications advisor to ownership, business executives, and hockey leadership.
·         Be an advocate for growth and development of the current communications team.

Crisis & External Communications
·         Serve as the organization’s primary point of contact for all media inquiries and official statements.
·         Oversee public statements, circulating internally for feedback and approval prior to release along with the VGK, HSK and VKH Communications teams
·         Author and oversee executive and ownership media engagements, briefing materials, and interview preparation sessions.
·         Implement, enhance, and lead communications processes that protect the organization, its people, and the sports teams and arenas brands in the portfolio

Public Relations
·         Lead strategic public relations initiatives in support of organization-wide business objectives.
·         Develop thoughtful, relevant pitch ideas that generate awareness, credibility, and support for key initiatives.
·         Build and maintain strong relationships with local, national, and international media, including traditional hockey media, mainstream sports outlets, and non-sports publications.

Hockey Media Relations
·         Work closely with hockey operations on key hockey media relations matters.
·         Provide strategic counsel to ensure consistent, disciplined messaging from ownership through hockey operations leadership.
·         Balance the needs of the hockey team with the needs of the business, with a clear understanding that hockey success is paramount.
·         Select travel as required to support media relations and organizational priorities.

Content Partnership & Advocacy
·         Act as an internal advocate for internal content teams, helping align communications strategy with digital, social and broadcast storytelling efforts.
·         Partner closely with the marketing and digital teams to reinforce a content-centric approach to communications and earned media.
·         Identify opportunities where communications priorities and content initiatives can complement and amplify one another without compromising hockey operations needs.

Public Affairs & Government Relations
·         Provide executive oversight of public affairs efforts, including engagement with local, state, and league-related government stakeholders.
·         Serve as a senior advisor to ownership and executive leadership on public policy, civic engagement, and regulatory matters that may impact the organization.
·         Coordinate messaging and outreach related to public affairs in partnership with legal counsel, league offices, venue partners, and external advisors as appropriate.
·         Support strategic relationships with elected officials, civic leaders, and community stakeholders to protect and advance the interests of the organization.

Core Responsibilities:
·         Lead and oversee the club’s external communications, public relations, and media relations strategy.
·         Provide leadership, mentorship, and professional development for the VGK, HSK and VKH Communications team.
·         Serve as a key organizational spokesperson on business and hockey-related matters, and as the main point of contact for interview requests involving ownership, the President, C-level executives, the President of Hockey Operations, and the General Manager.
·         Prepare media briefs, talking points, and interview preparation materials for ownership, executives, coaches, and players as needed.
·        Collaborate closely with VGK business leaders to identify organization-wide objectives and direct non-hockey public relations strategies that support those goals.
·         Work in partnership with the VGK, HSK and VKH Communications teams on hockey media relations and broadcasting support.
·         Actively participate in executive leadership meetings and serve as a strong, clear, and messaging-centric voice in the boardroom.
·         Build and maintain relationships with media, league partners, civic leaders, and key stakeholders, and support broader Foley enterprise initiatives as appropriate.
·         Collaborate with C-suite leaders and key stakeholders to develop annual earned media strategies and messaging frameworks.
·         Partner with the Analytics team and relevant stakeholders to establish metrics and KPIs that measure the effectiveness and impact of communications strategies and campaigns.
·         Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Experience & Expertise:
·         12+ years of progressive leadership experience in communications, public relations, media relations, or corporate affairs, with significant senior-level responsibility.
·         Executive-level experience within professional sports, entertainment, media, or another high-profile, brand-sensitive organization strongly preferred.
·         Demonstrated experience leading hockey or professional sports media relations, including direct interaction with coaches, players, and league offices.
·         Proven crisis communications leadership experience, including high-pressure, high-visibility situations requiring discretion, sound judgment, and strategic clarity.
·         Experience advising ownership, C-suite executives, or senior leadership on messaging, positioning, and reputational strategy.
·         Background in Public Affairs, government relations, or civic engagement efforts is strongly preferred.
·         Experience collaborating cross-functionally with digital, marketing, content, partnerships, legal, and analytics teams.
·         Track record of building, mentoring, and retaining high-performing communications teams.
