JOB SUMMARY:

Smith Entertainment Group (SEG) is seeking an experienced Graphics Operator to join the Utah Mammoth broadcast team. The ideal candidate will bring at least two years of experience operating Xpression for live sports broadcasts and possess expert-level knowledge of the NHL. We’re looking for a team player—someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, communicates effectively, and performs under pressure. SEG Media has developed one of the most innovative broadcast and distribution strategies in sports, spanning linear TV, streaming, and out-of-market initiatives. This role will be key in keeping our broadcasts ahead of industry trends across both traditional and digital platforms.

This is a seasonal position based in Salt Lake City, Utah. While the role averages 30–40 hours per week during the hockey season, it is classified as seasonal employment and does not include company benefit eligibility. Employment concludes at the end of the season.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as Graphics Coordinator and Operator for the Utah Mammoth on home and away broadcasts (80+ games annually plus the first round of playoffs).
  • Collaborate with the Utah NHL Producer to set the tone for hockey broadcasts, helping to educate and introduce professional hockey to the Utah market.
  • Research and build all in-game sponsor graphics, maintaining detailed execution logs for reference.
  • Create graphics highlighting statistical trends across the Utah Mammoth roster and the NHL.
  • Support the producer and pre-game producer by executing graphics for game opens, pregame, intermission, and postgame segments.
  • Operate and manage the score bug, ensuring smooth updates of logos, game flows, and other elements in coordination with the bug operator.
  • Exemplify SEG’s core values: transparent, all-in, community-obsessed, one team, and scrappy.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned across Smith Entertainment Group.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a graphics operator in live sports television; NHL experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in operating the Xpression graphics system (highly recommended).
  • Ability to perform under the pressure of live broadcasts.
  • Experience with searchable sports databases preferred.
  • Photoshop skills a plus.
  • Strong communication, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Based in Salt Lake City, with occasional travel required for select road trips where conflicts arise with Jazz & studio access. For most road games, graphics production will operate from the Delta Center studio.
  • Deep knowledge of and passion for the NHL.
  • Ability to work a flexible, event-driven schedule including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms.
  • Ability to observe, inspect, estimate, and assess.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, walk, and climb stairs for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
