The Waterloo Black Hawks of the United States Hockey League are seeking a Social Media Specialist to serve as the organization’s lead brand storyteller, managing how the team is presented to fans, sponsors, players, and the community.
Core Job Responsibilities
1. Social Media Management
- Develop and execute the team’s social media strategy across platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok, and YouTube.
- Create and schedule daily content including game promotions, score updates, roster announcements, player features, and behind-the-scenes posts.
- Provide live game coverage with real-time updates, highlights, and fan engagement.
- Monitor audience interaction and respond to comments/messages to strengthen fan relationships.
- Assist with capturing content at home games and at off-site promotional, community, and sponsored events.
2. Graphic Design
- Design promotional graphics for:
- Game day announcements
- Ticket sales campaigns
- Sponsorship activations
- Theme nights and special events
- Player commitments, trades, and awards
- Create print-ready materials such as posters, programs, signage, and arena displays.
- Maintain brand consistency across all visual assets according to team guidelines.
- Develop sponsor-branded creative assets that fulfill partnership agreements.
3. Photography & Visual Content Creation
- Photograph games, practices, community appearances, and team events.
- Capture player headshots, promotional portraits, and sponsor-related content.
- Edit and archive high-quality images for media use, website galleries, and promotional campaigns.
- Build and maintain a photo library for team historical and marketing purposes.
- Coordinate with videographers when producing multimedia content.
4. Video Production (Filming, Editing & Producing)
- Film games, practices, locker room content, interviews, and special team events.
- Produce video features such as:
- Player interviews and profiles
- Game highlights and recap videos
- Promotional commercials
- Sponsor advertisements
- Behind-the-scenes documentary-style content
- Edit video footage into polished, branded content optimized for social media, website, arena video boards, and broadcast use.
- Create short-form vertical video for platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
- Manage video shooting schedules, scripting, storyboarding, and production timelines.
- Coordinate music, graphics overlays, captions, and branding elements into final video packages.
5. Strategic Marketing Collaboration
- Work with senior leadership on fan growth campaigns.
- Develop creative ideas to increase attendance and fan engagement.
- Promote ticket packages, camps, merchandise, and fundraising events.
Qualifications:
· Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and After Effects (or related software such as Figma).
· Robust knowledge of social media platforms, trends, and best practices.
· Exhibit strong written and communication skills, tailored to the unique nuances of each social platform.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
· Passion for sports, particularly hockey, is a significant plus.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
· Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, graphic design or equivalent education and experience preferred
· 1+ years of experience in digital/social content creation or production
