Position Title: Vice President, Business Development

Type: Full-time, Executive Leadership

Position Summary:
The United States Hockey League (USHL), the nation’s only Tier I junior hockey league and the premier development path for NCAA and NHL-bound athletes, is seeking an experienced and visionary Vice President of Business Development. This executive leader will be responsible for expanding the league’s commercial footprint, growing revenue, and establishing strategic partnerships to ensure long-term sustainability and continued excellence in player development, fan engagement, and league expansion.

Major Responsibilities:

·        Revenue Development and Sponsorships - Identify, negotiate, and secure national sponsorships, partnerships, and brand alliances. Drive growth in advertising, licensing, and other revenue-generating initiatives. Oversee monetization strategies for content, analytics platforms, NIL opportunities, and digital media.

·        Media, Content, and Fan Engagement - Collaborate with the Director of Communications to develop and execute a unified media strategy that increases league visibility through enhanced broadcast quality, strategic content initiatives, and cross-platform storytelling. Work closely with media partners to support production improvements and align league-wide efforts that highlight players, alumni, and the USHL brand.

·        Strategic Relationships and Institutional Outreach - Foster relationships with NCAA institutions to reinforce the USHL’s leadership role in elite player development. Represent the USHL at national events, strategic partner meetings, and industry conferences. Support the Commissioner in advocacy, policy, and stakeholder engagement initiatives.

·        NIL Collective Development - Build a USHL NIL Collective by cultivating contributions from league alumni, with a focus on engaging current NHL players to support the next generation of athletes through sponsorship, mentorship, and donation-based funding.

Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Business, Sports Management, Marketing, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in sports business development, sponsorship, media rights, or strategic partnerships. Proven track record of revenue growth and brand strategy. Strong knowledge of U.S. Junior and collegiate hockey. Excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications: - Experience working with or within a sports league, team, agency, or governing body. Familiarity with sports technology platforms, NIL trends, and athlete development models. Ability to develop cross-functional strategies that balance competitive, commercial, and developmental goals. 

Travel Requirements: travel is required for League meetings held twice a year and occasionally league events as necessary.

 Sample Year One Objectives 
1.      Generate New Sponsorship and Licensing Revenue
Identify, negotiate, and close new partnerships that generate combined league-level sponsorship and licensing revenue.
2.      Develop and Launch a USHL NIL Collective
Establish and activate the USHL NIL Collective achieving minimum goals in contributions, focusing on engagement from league alumni and current NHL players.
3.      Enhance Media and Broadcast Value
Collaborate with the Director of Communications to improve league-wide broadcast production standards and secure at least one new national media or digital content partnership.
4.      Position Marketing Revenue for Long-Term Growth
Build the strategic foundation to grow USHL marketing-related revenue including branded content, sponsorship activations, NIL initiatives, and digital monetization.

This is a remote/work-from-home position with the USHL. All employees are expected to be actively available during the normal hours of operation, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., and will have some responsibilities on League game days and League events.
