Job Description

The Muskegon Lumberjacks are currently looking for highly motivated candidates seeking to gain experience in the sports media industry. Internships can be completed for college credit or for the benefit of gaining experience. Interns will work with the Director of Communications and Broadcasting as well as digital media team to create and execute a media plan for the team.

Term

This internship will run through the 2024-2025 USHL season starting in October and concluding in April or May depending on playoff results. Summer interns are encouraged to apply as well. The Lumberjacks are looking for interns for the entire 2024-2025 season, but fall/spring semester internships will be considered as well. This is an in-person on site internship.

Responsibilities May Include

Work all Lumberjacks home games
Provide color commentary on FloHockey and mixlr Broadcasts.
Play-by-play commentary opportunities
Help with set up/tear down of pregame show production
Writing of post-game recaps
Other written content including series previews, feature stories
Creation of notes packets for press box media
Cutting highlights for YouTube and social media
Possible assistance of in-game social media coverage
Perform additional tasks when requested

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED
Working towards a Bachelor’s in sport media (Communications) or equivalent area of study (highly desired, but not required)
Previous broadcasting experience
Experience with photo and video editing software is required (Adobe Creative Suite)
A reliable form of transportation
Strong knowledge of hockey
Ability to work during all Lumberjacks home games including nights and weekends
Ability to multi-task and maintain strong prioritization and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment
Extremely coachable and willing to learn everyday
