REPORTS TO: Head Coach and President of Business Operations
The Muskegon Lumberjacks are seeking an Athletic Trainer for the 2026-2027 season. The Athletic Trainer will assist in developing elite athletes who are committed to excellence on and off the ice as proud members of the United States Hockey League. Extensive interaction with coaches, staff, players and other rink employees is required of this position. Expected responsibilities are to be taken care of at all practices and games. The position would be effective immediately.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Coordinate all medical services and provide day-to-day coverage for a Tier 1 Junior hockey team
-Responsible for the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of all injuries and illnesses under the direction of our team physicians and other members of the medical team as indicated.
– Responsible for updating and communicating with the Coaching Staff regarding player injuries, conditions, and recovery.
– Communicate and coordinate with team medical staff to provide care for the health and well-being of our athletes.
– Assist or direct the strength and conditioning program in conjunction with the coaching staff
– Maintain records related to athletes’ condition, training, and treatment plans.
– Implement USHL policies regarding the concussion and drug testing programs
– Responsible for filing and processing insurance documents.
– Handle inventory ordering, maintenance, and restocking of supplies.
– Assist with game day preparation in conjunction with our equipment staff.
– Assist with coordination of team travel and meals for all away games
– Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
– Strong interpersonal and communication skills needed to develop and maintain positive, respectful relationships with all members of the Muskegon Lumberjacks Organization and uphold the culture we strive to maintain as a team.
– Must possess valid driver’s license and the ability to travel internationally.
– The successful applicant must complete a full background screen.
ABILITIES & SKILLS:
– Ability to maintain effective relationships with strong interpersonal and communication skills with management, league officials, facility representatives, fellow employees, and the general public
– Familiarity with all standard athletic training equipment, included but not limited to modalities, hot and cold therapy, and soft tissue care
– Detail oriented
– Analyze and solve problems independently
– Work in a high intensity, competitive, and deadline driven environment
– Understand, adhere and enforce safety procedures
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
– Bachelor’s degree in athletic training or a related field from an accredited university, (master’s degree preferred)
– Must be recognized by the National Athletic Trainer’s Association and Board of Certification as a BOC certified Athletic Trainer
– One+ years of experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer, with a preference for hockey related experience
– First Responder & Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
– Michigan State Department of Health Licensed Athletic Trainer or Eligible
– Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed
