The Utica Comets and Utica City FC are welcoming applications to fill a Video Production Internship position for the 2026-27 season. 

Internship Terms: Fall (September – December), Spring (January – April/May), and Season-Long (September – May/June) opportunities are available
Location: Utica, NY
Format: On-Site
Expected Time Commitment: 20 hours/week

Supervised by the Videographer, interns will develop their storytelling abilities through video. This internship offers opportunities to gain hands-on experience as they learn to produce on- and off-field content, light and shoot interviews, conduct media days, and establish professional relationships with players, staff, and media. Candidates should have an interest in in short-form storytelling and creating content such as hype videos, event recaps, and sponsored collaborations.

***NOTE: To participate in this internship, candidates are required to own a camera and laptop to work from. The camera must be able to shoot, at minimum, 60fps in 1080x1920.***

This is an unpaid internship. Participants may qualify for academic credit if allowed by their college or university. 


RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Serve as a secondary shooter during Utica Comets and Utica City FC home games and select special events at the Adirondack Bank Center. Capture, edit, and distribute footage for in-game and social media use.
  • Produce and edit short-form content, including highlight packages, event recaps, hype videos, and other special projects as assigned.
  • Organize, label, and manage video footage and assets.
  • Assist in setup and breakdowns of camera, lighting, and audio equipment for gameday broadcasts and interviews.
  • Contribute to the conceptualization and production process of media days, sponsored content, commercials, jersey reveals, and other special projects.
  • Additional duties as assigned.


LEARNING OBJECTIVES 
From this Internship, participants will be able to take away the following skills and lessons and apply it in future roles:

  • Establish an efficient turnaround process of distributing high-quality video content for use across various mediums
  • Develop camera operation skills and build storytelling abilities through video.
  • Understand the stages of the production process.
  • Develop troubleshooting abilities to solve basic technical issues
  • Integrate into a fun, fast-paced professional sports environment, adapting through changing conditions to successfully accomplish tasks
  • Build connections and professional relationships with other members of the sports industry.
 

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
  • An understanding of camera equipment and how it operates. Knowledge of Sony cameras, cinema & photography lenses is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro AND/OR Final Cut Pro is required. Additional knowledge and abilities with Adobe Creative Cloud and Davinci Resolve is preferred, but not required.
  • Prior experience working in a video production environment is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Can maintain a high level of professionalism within a professional sports environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing game situations and can complete projects under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time; can lift up to 50 lb.
  • Must have a flexible schedule to allow commitment to a majority of Utica Comets and Utica City FC home games during their internship term. Interested applicants must be willing and able to work non-traditional hours in non-traditional settings during peak times of the year.
  • Intern will be responsible for their own housing, food, and transportation to and from the Adirondack Bank Center. Reimbursement for travel, gas, lodging, etc. is not offered with this internship.
