The Utica Comets of the American Hockey League and Utica City FC of the Major Arena Soccer League are seeking a highly motivated and energetic individual as a mascot performer.
This role a seasonal, part-time role which will serve as the secondary mascot performer for Naudie, the mascot of the Utica Comets, and Keeper, the mascot of Utica City FC, on select home games, community events and additional scheduled public appearances. As part of the game presentation team, this individual will assist in the execution of a variety of in-game elements and activities, including on-field/in-stand skits, to create a thrilling and engaging atmosphere for fans.

- Work with the current mascot performer to learn the personality, attitudes, mannerisms, and characteristics that bring Naudie (Comets) and Keeper (UCFC) to life
- Maintain established identities of each mascot (movement style, energy level, etc.) to ensure the consistency of each mascot’s respective characters. This includes no speaking while in costume.
- Oversee care, handling, and storage of costume pieces and accessories after each use
- Comfortably perform in front of a large audience inside and outside the Adirondack Bank Center, encouraging crowd participation to produce an exciting, family-friendly atmosphere.
- Represent the Comets and UCFC brands with professionalism, energy, and enthusiasm
- Collaborate with the game presentation team (hosts, interns, etc.) in the activation of in-arena presentation elements. Participate in pre-game production meetings and rehearsals.
- Appear at Comets and UCFC community events and partner activations, as requested.
- Additional duties as assigned by Comets and UCFC management
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
The Mascot Performer must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skill and abilities:
- Excellent physical stamina with the expectation of being on your feet standing and moving for extended periods of time
- Ability to comfortably perform in full costume for extended periods of time in a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions, including warm weather
- Adhering to strict timing and adapting to changing game situations in a high-pressure and fast-paced environment
- Effectively use non-verbal expressions to communicate personality and emotion
- Possess a basic knowledge of ice hockey and indoor/arena soccer
- Lifting at least 30 lb. at a time
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
- High School Diploma or its equivalency
- Previous experience as a mascot or costumed performer and/or performance, dance, theater, cheer, or athletic experience is strongly preferred, but not required
- Skating ability (hockey skates) is a plus, but not required
- Possess a flexible schedule to be available for Utica Comets and Utica City FC home games. Seasons run from October – May/June and include select weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Must have reliable transportation. Reimbursement for travel, gas, lodging, etc. is not offered with this position.
The Utica Comets and Utica City FC reserve the right to change or modify the employee’s job description whether orally or in writing, at any time during the employment relationship. The Utica Comets and Utica City FC may require an employee to perform duties outside his/her normal description.
