The Utica Comets, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the New Jersey Devils, are seeking qualified candidates for the role of In-Arena Host. Reporting to the Director of Game Presentation & Partnership Activation, the In-Arena Host is a seasonal, part-time role, serving as an emcee to Utica Comets home games at the Adirondack Bank Center. This individual will host a variety of in-game promotional elements and activities to create an engaging and exciting atmosphere for fans.
 
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Serve as a representative of the Comets brand, performing in front of a large audience with professionalism, energy, and enthusiasm
  • Host live promotional opportunities, intermission activities, and interviews throughout Utica Comets home games and events
  • Proactively engage with fans inside the Adirondack Bank Center. Encourage crowd participation to produce an exciting and positive atmosphere
  • Work together with the game presentation team (mascots, performers, interns, etc.) in the activation of in-arena presentation elements
  • Participate in pre-game production meetings and rehearsals, including soundchecks
  • Ensure all pre-game, in-game, and postgame entertainment, promotions, and activities are explained clearly and accurately to fans prior to the start of their in-game element
  • Memorize and recite structured copy as well as improvise with a live audience
 

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
The In-Game Host must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skill and abilities:
 
  • Outstanding customer service, listening, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to professionally communicate and interact with Comets staff, fans, and additional stakeholders (players, executives, VIP’s, etc.)
  • Good physical stamina with the expectation of being on your feet standing and moving for extended periods of time
  • Adhering to strict timing, working effectively and adapting to changing game situations in a high-pressure and fast-paced environment
  • Memorize, write, and modify text
  • Must have a working knowledge of ice hockey
  • Lifting at least 20-30 lb. at a time


QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
  • High School Diploma or its equivalency (BA/BS degree preferred)
  • 1-3 years of related work experience in hosting, broadcasting, or performing arts
  • Previous experience in production (TV/film), live event or sports operations, theater, cheer, or other relevant experience is strongly preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of the Utica Comets and/or the American Hockey League is preferred.
  • Possess a flexible schedule to be available for Utica Comets home games. Seasons run from October – May/June and include select weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel to and from the Adirondack Bank Center. Reimbursement for travel, gas, lodging, etc. is not offered with this position.

COMPENSATION
This position will pay $100 per game/event
