The Tucson Roadrunners are looking for fun, energetic, hockey-loving individuals to join our 2026-27 Rally Runners team!
Rally Runners are an essential part of the Roadrunners' game-night experience. From welcoming fans and energizing the crowd to assisting with promotions and keeping the ice game-ready, Rally Runners help bring the excitement of Roadrunners hockey to life! Whether you're a strong skater, a natural performer, or both, we'd love to meet you!

What You'll Do:
- Greet and interact with fans throughout Roadrunners game nights
- Assist Dusty and Rowdy with skits, promotions, and entertainment
- Energize the crowd and participate in in-game promotions
- Participate as a member of the Ice Crew by assisting with ice cleaning and game operations
- Set up and tear down game-night show elements and equipment
- Work as part of a fast-paced, highly collaborative game-night team
- Help create a fun, welcoming, and memorable experience for Roadrunners fans
- Supervise and assist Jr. Roadrunners participating in the Ice Crew program
What We're Looking For:
- Energetic, outgoing, and positive personality
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Ability to multitask, problem-solve, and remain composed in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to follow directions and execute tasks quickly and accurately
- Excellent attention to detail and time-management skills
- Comfortable interacting with large crowds and appearing on camera
- Ability to stand for extended periods, sprint skate the length of the ice surface, and lift up to 30 lbs.
- Flexible availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure
- Willingness to represent the Tucson Roadrunners professionally and adhere to all Tucson Roadrunners and AHL guidelines and policies
- Hockey experience and/or knowledge is a plus
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Must pass a drug test and background check
Rally Runners: Shoe Crew or Ice Crew, you can do both!

- Shoe Crew: Focuses on fan engagement, in-game promotions, entertainment, and crowd interaction.
- Ice Crew: Focuses on skating, ice cleaning, and game operations throughout the game.
You can participate in one or both areas depending on your interests and abilities!
For Rally Runners interested in joining the Ice Crew, responsibilities include:
- Quickly and efficiently removing snow from the ice during TV timeouts
- Cleaning and maintaining all glass around the ice
- Keeping home, visiting, and penalty benches clean and free of debris
- Setting up the game area, including mats, shovels, squeegees, scrapers, and snow cans
- Preparing the ice and nets for pregame skate and game play
- Removing nets during intermission for ice resurfacing, patching holes, squeegeeing the goalie areas, and replacing nets
- Cleaning and resetting benches following the game
- Assisting with other game-night ice operations as needed
Ice Crew Requirements:
- Skating ability is required for Ice Crew applicants
- Applicants interested in Ice Crew must attend the in-person skating tryout on Wednesday, September 16th @ 6:00 pm
- Applicants must provide their own skates; hockey and figure skates are both acceptable
Rally Runner Game Day Commitment (Shoe Crew & Ice Crew):
- Be available for at least 80% of home games
- Arrive approximately 2 hours prior to puck drop on game days
- Be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required
- Be prepared to work in a high-energy environment for extended periods of time
Important Dates:
- September 16 at 6:00 PM: Ice Crew Skating Tryouts (*subject to change)
- Additional information will be provided to applicants who opt in for the Ice Crew.
- September 26 at 12:00 PM: Orientation & First Practice
- October 3 at 2:30 PM: Home Opener & Red Carpet Event
Frequently Asked Questions:
- Do I need to know how to skate?
No! Skating is only required if you want to participate on the Ice Crew. If you don't skate, you can still be a Rally Runner as part of the Shoe Crew, focusing on in-game promotions and entertainment. Rally Runners can also participate in both areas!
- Will there be an in-person tryout?
Only applicants interested in the Ice Crew will participate in an in-person skating tryout. All applicants will participate in an individual interview.
- Do returning Rally Runners need to apply and try out again?
Yes. Returning members must reapply each season. A spot on the team is not guaranteed, and all applicants are evaluated for the upcoming season.
- Do I need to bring my own skates to the Ice Crew tryout?
Yes. Applicants must bring their own skates. Rentals will not be provided. Hockey and figure skates are acceptable.
