JOB SUMMARY:  The Communications & Media Relations Assistant position is a season-long, part-time opportunity for the 2025-26 AHL season. College credit can be accepted but is not required. The qualified candidate will be required to attend all Texas Stars home games, work remotely for select away games, and participate in some team functions and fulfill up to eight additional office hours per week. The position will be responsible for assisting the Manager of Broadcast & Media Relations in game day preparation, press box management, and generating content for the team’s social media accounts and website. This is an exceptional hands-on experience with a professional sports franchise and will be an instrumental stepping-stone in finding a full-time Communications or Media Relations position in the industry.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 
  • Assist the Manager of Broadcast & Media Relations with day-to-day duties and work in a cohesive unit. 
  • Manage the press box on game nights. 
  • Organize and distribute game notes packets prior to games. 
  • Assist in updating game notes, player bios and statistics between games. 
  • Assist with in-game and postgame media needs including distributing statistics, coordinating player interviews, etc. 
  • Contribute to writing press releases, game recaps, and in-depth features for TexasStars.com. 
  • Handle credentials for all media, scouts, and visiting team personnel. 
  • Assist in coordinating game-day video interviews after the team’s practices. 
  • Assist and maintain season and historical statistical records. 
  • Provide written and video content for the Stars’ website and social media initiatives. 
  • Assist in the team’s social media efforts and work with other assistants to cover road games remotely. 
  • All other duties as assigned. 
  • This is not a play-by-play position, but the right candidate could earn the opportunity contribute to the broadcast efforts for select games. 
 
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  
  • Ability to work all home games, including nights, weekends, holidays, and some game-day practices when available. 
  • Availability to monitor designated road games online through AHLTV. 
  • Ability to balance multiple responsibilities. 
  • Creative thinker with exceptional work ethic and professional demeanor. 
  • Must possess a basic knowledge of hockey and passion for sports. 
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet Research, and Social Media (Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube). Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, or the ability to learn quickly is a plus. 

Physical Demands and Working Environment 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, handle objects and office tools, reach, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is exposed to an Arena environment, with noise levels sometimes loud.
