Job Summary
The Manager, Technical Production (Events) is responsible for managing VSG’s Audiovisual and Broadcast Systems sub-departments. The Manager, Technical Production (Events) oversees teams responsible for successful planning, maintenance, evaluation, and execution of production technology needs for events at Benchmark International Arena and provides similar support to partner venues (Embarc Collective, Sparkman Wharf, Lightning Hockey Practice Facilities).
The Manager, Technical Production (Events) is responsible for managing relationships between Event Production, Events Services and Technical Production groups to plan and execute world class plus production technology experiences for events. The Manager, Technical Production (Events) must possess strong organizational and time management skills and have a broad understanding of all the key components of live event technology and broadcast control room environments. The Manager, Technical Production (Events) must be aware of industry trends and developments and create strategic planning frameworks that allow VSG to maintain a world-class plus level of audiovisual and broadcast technologies.
The Manager, Technical Production (Events) must facilitate strong relationships with third party vendors including production equipment manufacturers, integrators, broadcast partners, event production staff, and venue operators. The Manager, Technical Production is also responsible for fostering strong internal relationships across VSG departments including Event Management, Facilities Management, Game Production, Partnership, Retail, Food and Beverage, and more.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan venue production technology approaches for events ranging from internal corporate meetings to championship sporting events with global distribution
- Develop VSG’s approach to emerging production technologies
- Oversee regular maintenance of audiovisual and broadcast systems to ensure maximum reliability
- Collaborate with event management teams to ensure successful and safe operation of production technologies during events
- Must be able to extemporaneously communicate complex technological ideas in a simplified and respectful manner
- Must be flexible and creative, able to implement solutions with minimal notice
- Supervise Audiovisual and Broadcast Systems teams during Hockey Games and other events
- Ensure partner/sponsor technology obligations for events are fulfilled as contracted
- Ensure Audiovisual and Broadcast systems are thoroughly and accurately documented
- Manage accurate and reliable inventories of Technical Production assets
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for audiovisual and broadcast equipment and services
- Mentor Audiovisual and Broadcast engineers/technicians to foster their professional growth and success
- Represent VSG’s Technical Production department at industry conventions throughout United States
- Perform other duties as assigned by VP of Technology and Innovation or other supervisors
Supervisory & Management responsibilities
- Oversee a team of Part-Time and Full-Time employees including Audiovisual Engineers and Audiovisual Technicians
- Create work schedule for Audiovisual sub-department based on event needs
Game/Event Responsibilities

Qualifications
- Ability to build strong and collaborative relationships with their team and business partners
- 6+ years of experience with live event production in sports and entertainment venues or comparable
- Ability to operate under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written); excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills; excellent organization skills
- Ability to appropriately handle confidential matters and information
- Ability to work independently
- Strong attention to detail, excellent planning skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong leadership ability; management experience is preferred
- Fundamental understanding of Computer Science, including IP Networking technology
- Experience with project/task management software such as Trello is preferred
- Familiarity with audiovisual and broadcast equipment from the following manufacturers is preferred: Ross, Evertz, AJA, Blackmagic, Vizrt, Allen and Heath, Shure, Riedel, Meyer Sound, Daktronics, and others...
- Familiarity with open-source software solutions such as VLC, OBS, and Bitfocus Companion
- AVIXA certifications preferred
- High-level understanding of professional/commercial audio and visual equipment and systems
- High-level understanding of broadcasting and electronic media operations and transmission
- Experience with live streaming protocols (RTMP, SRT, NDI, UDP, ST2110) and video encoders preferred
Working Conditions
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively in office and arena environment that can be exciting, loud and distracting
- This is an onsite role; flexibility to work a minority of time remotely.
- Ability to work extended hours including late nights, holidays, and weekends as needed
- Ability to lift/carry/move up to 50lbs
- Ability to work in cold/hot indoor and outdoor temperatures
- Ability to commute to various venues throughout the Greater Tampa Bay Area
- Ability to work in areas that can become crowded with equipment and/or people
- Ability to work comfortably around special effects including, but not limited to haze, strobe lights, lasers, etc.
