Pay Range:                    The range for this role is $27.50 per hour.

Actual base pay will be determined based on permissible factors such as transferable skills, work experience, market demands and primary work location. The base pay range provided is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

Position Overview
The SAP Center Security team supports the Guest Experience function in its overarching mission to maintain a safe and secure environment for both employees and guests. In this role, the Security team partners with all departments to help deliver exceptional service across every touchpoint of the organization.

The Security Supervisor is a critical member of the team, responsible for ensuring the physical safety and security of SAP Center at San Jose, Sharks Ice at San Jose, and Tech CU Arena. This includes overseeing the scheduling of 24-hour security staff, leading training initiatives, enforcing policies and procedures, and conducting regular facility rounds to prevent unauthorized access and activities.

This position is responsible for managing overnight security operations, typically working from 8:30 PM to 5:00 AM, five days per week, with flexibility based on event schedules at SAP Center, Sharks Ice at San Jose, and Tech CU Arena.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervision
    • Supervise admission to SAP Center at San Jose of employees and vendors, especially during events by overseeing 24-hour security staff and performing magnetometer and bags checks, checking ID cards, and credentials of employees and others, interfacing with employees, the public and all vendors in the Arena. 
    • Hire and supervise 24-hour security staff; provide direction, train, evaluate and counsel. Ensure all security personnel are trained and carry out their duties in accordance with established expectations. 
    • Provide backup support to security staff, as needed. 
    • Ensure that personnel meet performance expectations; provide verbal and written documentation of performance; and implement strategies that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of department operations. 
    • Process payroll and maintain current schedules within the ABI system.
    • Ensure adequate staff coverage for all events and games.
    • Develop and implement procedures, policies, and systems for all security/safety related incidents/contingencies and train staff on their responsibilities while carrying them out.
    • Work with management to determine the need for and implement programs to attain enough staff with CPR and Basic First Aid training/certification.
    • Enforce facility policies including safety, facility access, loss prevention and other relevant tasks. 

  • Security of Facility 
    • Monitors CCTV and alarm computers as well as issue Arena ID cards.
    • On-going operation of alarm systems including maintenance and trouble-shooting and electronic access control.
    • Liaise with other departments regarding safety policies.
    • Set-up and monitor radio equipment for Security Department.
    • Implement facility emergency preparedness plans. 
    • Maintain 24-hour, 7-day availability of knowledgeable security assistance.

  • Administrative 
    • Participate in the recruiting, hiring and training of security employees. Establish performance objectives and conduct performance evaluations. 
    • Ensure day-to-day operations run efficiently; reassigning personnel depending on operational needs. 
    • Coordinate security for events and day-to-day operations. 
    • Work and become familiar with staff personnel by working a variety of shifts and hours. 
    • Assist, advise and guide departments regarding security regulations and procedures; provide recommendations for improving assigned security function. 
    • Utilize electronic security systems, including: Wisenet Camera System, S2 Access Control, ABI Time and Attendance. 
    • Initiate investigations and develop loss reduction procedures. 
    • Investigate incident reports, observation reports and daily security assignments; ensure proper procedures are followed by all officers on site. 
    • May oversee security equipment issuance and maintenance. 
    • Maintains files, records, and logs consistent with the needs of Security and other departments for historical information.
    • Audit log entries and other written reports/memos as needed, as well as developing and implementing department strategies, procedures, and systems.
    • Establish and maintain computerized records including incident reports, employee roster, and lost and found.
    • Prepare and submit timely reports including payroll and other data related to department operations.
    • Maintain and administrate all 24-Hour Security software including Camera monitoring client, ISS, and Aware manager activity log.
    • Establish and enforce strict procedures consistent with security and safety guidelines
    • Perform other tasks and projects as required.
    • Ensure electric carts used in the maintenance and parking areas are both secure and charged for use.
    • Managing the handoff from parking in the securing of offsite parking facilities and admittance to guests who have left their vehicles.
    • Supporting fellow team members in de-escalate tense or unpleasant situations and resolving a favorable outcome.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of relevant security experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.  
  • In possession of a current BSIS Guard Card 
  • CPR and First Aid Certification preferred
  • Prior supervisor experience preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to use discretion.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and to use sound judgment and independence in determining priorities.
  • Willingness and ability to hold others accountable for meeting performance as well as general conduct expectations.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm, de-escalate, and make sound decisions during critical incidents.
  • Ability to always keep sensitive information confidential.
  • Knowledge and understanding of department policies and procedures; willingness to embody and promote the team’s and department's ethics, values and operating principles.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include interacting with individuals who have been experiencing a crisis.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead others and supervisory experience in 24-hour environment which includes scheduling and coaching and counseling others.
  • Computer skills including Outlook, Word and Excel including ability to learn new computer systems.
  • Administrative and computer knowledge at a sufficient level to meet department needs including administration of Building Safety Systems including: S2 Building Access, Wisenet Camera System, Aware Manager.
  • Strong customer service orientation; demonstrated ability to work well with colleagues, guests, and clients and with external organizations.
  • Availability to work a variety of shifts and availability to work any of 365 days each year including weekends and holidays. 
  • This job will require you to work shifts outside of SSE’s typical business hours. This position will be scheduled to work from 8:30 pm – 5:00 am on weekends, holidays and events as business needs require.

Physical Requirements
The following tasks are required to be performed with or without accommodation:

  • Ability to move equipment and bend at the waist, reach overhead and be able to lift 15 pounds with or without accommodation
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergencies, including arriving promptly on scene and taking appropriate action
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions (e.g., indoors and outdoors) depending on assignment
  • Physically navigate stairs and catwalks at SSE facilities during normal work hours and events with or without accommodation
  • Ability to work occasional extended hours including nights, weekends, holidays (all with advance notice)
  • Ability to respond to alarms, radio communication, and instructions
  • May be required to travel to other company locations  
  • May be required to attend conference, events, and training sessions within Bay Area or in- or out-of-state locations.
