Position Summary:

The Seattle Kraken are seeking a Senior Accounting Manager who is proactive, driven, curious, and passionate about pursuing a career in the sports industry. The ideal candidate will have the desire to apply accounting and finance knowledge acquired through prior roles to the unique challenges of a professional sports franchise. This position will report directly to the VP of Finance and will support a variety of accounting and finance related efforts, including but not limited to the following:

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Development and maintenance of accounting policies, procedures, and checklists.
  • Prepare and review journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Assist the VP of Finance with the annual GAAP audit and timely financials, as well as various financial reports.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Oversee the revenue and expense recognition process so that it follows contract terms.
  • Assist with preparing the budget and financial forecasts including League reporting for Hockey Related Revenue
  • Recruit and mentor team of accounting personnel, helping guide their professional development.
  • Collaborate with the team to develop efficient reporting strategies including automation and simplification of accounting and reporting processes.
  • Maintain good attendance and punctuality.

Required Experience & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; MBA/CPA a plus
  • 6+ years’ relevant work experience including in public accounting and/or financial planning and analysis preferred
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel; experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (Accounting Software), Concur (AP & Expense Platform), and/or Archtics (Ticketing Software) a plus
  • Experience building budgets, forecasts, and financial models
  • Knowledge of sports business or prior industry experience
  • Ability to learn quickly, open to change, and enjoy the challenge of unfamiliar tasks
  • Strong organizational skills, great attention to detail, ability to communicate and collaborate with varying levels of employees and management
  • A high degree of personal integrity and consistently put the interests of the organization first. 
  • Must be a fierce communicator and cross-organizational collaborator. 

 

Total Rewards Package:
  • Compensation:
    • In accordance with Washington’s Equal Pay and Opportunity Act, the starting salary range for this role is $105,000 to $120,000. The full salary band for this level is $105,000 - $135,000. Actual base pay will depend on employee’s experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.

Working Conditions:
  • Based on-site in our Seattle office and requires work to be performed in
  • Minimal Travel (<10% travel): May be required to Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
  • Frequent bending, lifting 15-20 pounds, sitting, exposure to multiple external elements, extensive walking through the building including inclines and stairs.
