Position Summary:
The Seattle Kraken is seeking a hardworking, creative, and driven Mascot Assistant to support the day-to-day operations of the mascot team (Team Buoy). As the Mascot Assistant, you will have the opportunity to assist with the mascot performances at home games, team events, and all outside appearances. Additionally, you will partner closely with other departments to support marketing efforts and initiatives to build up the mascot brand. The ideal candidate must be organized, detail oriented, comfortable speaking and interacting with all fans, as well as possess the ability to solve problems within a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

As the Mascot Assistant, you will be part of a dynamic, dedicated, and hardworking team. This role is a part-time paid position which includes the following:

  • All home Kraken games plus any additional playoff games
  • Flexible schedule in-office through the week 15-20 hours
  • Day of game rehearsals as needed
  • Outside appearances, which may occur on nights and weekends

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Game Duties & Office Responsibilities:
    • Ensure that all visits, timeouts and all other mascot elements at games are prepared and executed in a timely manner
    • Observe the crowd and the environment for any safety issues and respond appropriately as needed
    • Assist with the ideation, organization, and facilitation of skits and stunts to be performed by Buoy
    • Verbalize the mascot’s thoughts and feelings and communicate them to fans throughout the game
    • Prepare all props and equipment for each home game. Ability to create props and costumes is a bonus
    • Partner with the Entertainment Experience Team to conceptualize new creative skits and props
    • Facilitate and assist with contests and promotions
    • Assist in booking and maintaining Buoy’s schedule
    • Maintain the highest level of integrity when representing the Seattle Kraken, Climate Pledge Arena, and Team Partners
    • Capture content of special moments in game and other pieces for Buoy’s social media account
    • Keep Buoy’s storage usable and organized
    • Assist with social media ideation, capture, and editing of content used on Buoy’s social media channel
    • Other Duties as assigned
  • Appearance Duties & Responsibilities:
    • Work closely with the Manager, Entertainment Experience on all logistics for internal events for Partnership Marketing, Fan Development, One Roof Foundation, and paid external appearances
    • Provide on-site management for all mascot appearances
    • Assist in all appearance activities (photography, autograph sessions, leading games/contests, being the voice of appearances to help direct the flow of the event)
    • Travel to appearances in and outside the Seattle area
    • Drive the Buoy Van for appearances and events
    • Consistently be flexible for work hours beyond the typical work week for events both during the evenings and weekends
    • Capture content of appearances

Required Experience & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalency with proven work experience
  • Must have reliable transportation and be a proficient driver
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Flexible schedule with ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as the schedule requires
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to prioritize with outstanding follow through
  • Strong communication and leaderships skills – both written and interpersonal
  • Positive demeanor and strong work ethic
  • Highly organized and strong time management abilities
  • Basic video and music editing skills
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms
  • Passionate about sports with general industry knowledge
  • Initiative and dedication to challenge self and continually strive for improvement

Preferred Experience & Qualifications:

  • Previous sports industry experience
  • Proficiency with construction tools and basic repairs
  • Sewing/minor costume repair experience
  • Acting/Vocal performance
  • Improv background
  • Experience with mascots (performing or otherwise)

Working Conditions:

  • This role is based on-site in our Seattle office and Climate Pledge Arena which requires work to be performed in person. However, we do value flexibility as the business will allow and offer occasional opportunities to work from home
  • Minimal Travel (<10% travel): May be required to travel. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of weekends, nights and holidays required
  • Frequent bending, lifting up to 40 pounds, sitting, exposure to multiple external elements, extensive walking through the building including inclines and stairs

Total Rewards Package: 

  • Compensation: 
    • In accordance with Washington’s Equal Pay and Opportunity Act, the pay rate for this position is $23/hr. Actual pay will depend on employee’s experience and other job-related factors permitted by law
    • This role is classified as part-time, non-exempt (hourly)
