JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) Vancouver is seeking an experienced and passionate individual to serve as the Assistant Coach. The Assistant Coach will play a vital role in supporting the Head Coach in all aspects of team preparation, development and execution. This position is focused on enhancing player performance, supporting a high-performance culture, and contributing to the overall success of the team both on and off the ice. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for player development, strong communication skills, and a collaborative mindset to help execute the team’s vision and values.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Head Coach in implementing team strategies, systems, and game plans.
  • Assist with leading practice sessions, meetings, and team communications.
  • Help reinforce a positive, inclusive, and competitive team culture.
  • Serve as a mentor and resource to players and support staff, fostering professional growth and accountability.
  • Assist in planning and delivering practice drills, positional work, and skill sessions tailored to individual and team needs.
  • Provide ongoing feedback to players on their performance, habits, and development areas.
  • Work collaboratively with the medical and performance staff to monitor player workload, recovery, and fitness.
  • Support individualized development plans created by the Head Coach or Performance Team.
  • Contribute to pre-scouting efforts by preparing reports, analyzing film, and identifying tactical insights.
  • Assist with in-game responsibilities such as bench management, team strategy and tracking performance metrics.
  • Help review game footage with players and coaching staff to support team adjustments and learning.
  • Collaborate with the entire coaching staff on team strategies and player personnel management.
  • Maintain professional communication with players, staff, and external partners.
  • Represent the team in community events, fan engagement initiatives, and media opportunities when appropriate.
  • Support coordination between coaching, performance, medical, and operations teams to ensure alignment.
  • Maintain compliance with league rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Support the Head Coach in administrative tasks such as video uploads, scouting reports, and statistical tracking.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum two (2) years of elite-level coaching experience (professional, NCAA, international, or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the game, including tactics, player development, and analytics. 
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in sport.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
 
Salary Range: $85,000 – $110,000 CAD
