Position Summary
To support the continued growth of the league, the PWHL is seeking an experienced Broadcast and IP Manager to oversee the league's media partnerships, licensing agreements, and intellectual property portfolio to maximize revenue and brand protection. This role serves as the primary point of contact for broadcast partners and licensees while ensuring compliance with all contractual obligations and safeguarding the league's trademarks, logos, and proprietary content. The ideal candidate will combine relationship management skills with best practices on business issues to drive strategic growth of the league's media and IP assets.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Licensing and IP Operations
- Manage, and monitor broadcast rights agreements with television networks, streaming platforms, and digital media partners. Support VP and EVP with renewal and new agreement negotiations.
- Ensure compliance with all broadcast and licensing contract terms, including content usage rights, territorial restrictions, and financial obligations
- Develop and implement strategies to expand broadcast reach and maximize media rights revenue across traditional and emerging platforms
- Manage cross functional process for usage of league intellectual property by third party partners across promotional materials, advertising campaigns across all commercial applications including merchandise, sponsorships, broadcast and more.
Compliance & Reporting
- Maintain licensing programs for league trademarks, logos, highlights and clip rights across broadcast, streaming, entertainment and public exhibitions.
- Evaluate broadcast performance metrics and market trends to inform future rights negotiations and partnership strategies
- Manage relationships with rights holders, licensees, and media partners to address issues and identify new opportunities
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with legal counsel to protect intellectual property through trademark registrations, enforcement actions, and infringement monitoring
- Coordinate with marketing, communications, and operations teams to align IP usage across the league.
Required Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in broadcast rights management, media licensing, intellectual property management, or similar role within sports, entertainment, or media industries
- Demonstrated experience supporting senior leadership in contract negotiation and rights management
- Proficiency in rights management software and CRM platforms
- Bachelor's degree in business, sports management, law, communications, or related field
- Working knowledge of media rights frameworks, licensing structures, and intellectual property law
- Detail-oriented with meticulous attention to contract terms, deadlines, and compliance requirements
- Proactive and strategic thinker who anticipates challenges and identifies opportunities before they arise
- Collaborative team player with the ability to build consensus across multiple departments and stakeholders
- Diplomatic communicator who can navigate complex negotiations while maintaining positive, long-term partnerships
- Resilient and adaptable professional who thrives in fast-paced environments with competing priorities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working directly with professional sports leagues, teams, or governing bodies
- Advanced degree (MBA, JD, or master's in sports management)
- Established relationships with major broadcast networks, streaming services, or media companies
- Experience with international broadcast rights and cross-border licensing agreements
- Knowledge of emerging media platforms, digital distribution models, and NIL (name, image, likeness) frameworks
- Familiarity with content protection technologies and anti-piracy measures
- Previous P&L responsibility or revenue generation accountability in a rights management capacity
- Financial analysis and revenue modeling a plus!
