POSITION SUMMARY:
The Professional Women’s Hockey League is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to lead our broadcasting and streaming strategy & operations, ensuring the seamless delivery of content across various platforms. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of live and non-live game broadcast production, technologies, transmission, and distribution across linear and streaming platforms with knowledge of the fluid media landscape including familiarity with regional sports networks (RSNs).

Reporting to the SVP of Business Operations, the VP of Broadcasting is an integral part of the leadership team and will play a pivotal role in shaping the PWHL’s broadcasting strategy and executing day-to-day operations.  The candidate will work closely across the league with the SVP, Business Operations, SVP, Team Operations, Marketing, PR, and Commercial teams as well as all PWHL Team Business Directors and PR.  Additionally, the candidate will work closely with external partners and vendors overseeing production, transmission, distribution, and on-air talent.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Broadcast/Streaming Strategy and Operations: Develop and implement comprehensive strategies for game broadcast and production operations including editorial oversight, content creation, delivery, scheduling, and distribution across all platforms.  Manage Broadcast Coordinator.
  • Partner/Vendor Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for production technology partners and vendors negotiating contracts and ensuring the delivery of high-quality telecast and services.
  • Workflow Optimization: Institute best business practices to optimize production workflows, performance reporting, policies & procedures, broadcast style guide and business administration within the broadcasting team and across the league.
  • Content Management:  Manage content storage, archive and distribution including vetting requests from external parties.
  • Budget Management: Develop and manage fiscal operating budgets for all broadcasts, linear and streaming.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership to internal teams and external vendors, overseeing the implementation of innovative broadcast technologies that support league operations.
  • Strategic Planning: Identify key performance indicators and departmental objectives, aligning broadcasting goals with the overall objectives of the PWHL.
  • Multi-platform Distribution: Lead efforts to expand broadcasting initiatives across multiple platforms, including broadcast and digital channels.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with cross-functional teams to deliver strategic technology and operations initiatives in alignment with league goals and projects.  Collaborate with league and team marketing, social media and PR leveraging resources and optimizing content for broadcast integration.  
  • Drive Revenue: Work closely with commercial team to drive revenue, develop monetization opportunities and execute partner deliverables across game broadcasts.  Identify new revenue streams for non-live content. 
  • Talent:  Source, hire and manage all talent as needed across all broadcast partners.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcasting, Media Production, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in broadcasting operations, with a focus on sports broadcasting.
 SKILLS, ABILITIES & OTHER ATTRIBUTES: 
  • Proven track record of negotiating contracts with production technology vendors and managing budgets.
  • Strong understanding of regional sports networks, streaming platforms, and content supply chain management.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external partners.
  • Experience in developing and implementing broadcast workflows.
  • Live truck production experience a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of broadcast technologies and industry trends, with the ability to drive innovation and adapt to changing technologies.
  • Ability to perform duties independently under general, minimal supervision with specific assignments.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to align broadcasting/production initiatives with business goals.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to collaborate and influence stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Self-motivated with a sense of urgency and strong initiative to drive continuous improvement.
  • Fierce attention to detail while juggling multiple internal and external constituent’s is imperative.
  • Possess effective computer skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Basic understanding of organizational structure, goals, and mission
  • Knowledge of both U.S. and Canadian protocols a plus.
  • A willingness to travel frequently and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by live sporting events.
