POSITION SUMMARY:
The Professional Women’s Hockey League is seeking an experienced and passionate individual for our open VP, Finance & Administration position. This position is an integral part of the senior leadership team and oversees the PWHL’s financial and other administrative activities.  The VP, Finance & Administration will lead the finance/accounting, human resources, information technology, risk management and other administrative functions while working closely with the SVP, Business Operations, SVP, Hockey Operations and the PWHL Advisory Board to manage and monitor financial results, review growth opportunities for the League, and lead process improvement initiatives.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
 General
  •  Manage the organization’s finance/accounting, human resources, information technology, risk management and other administrative functions. 
  • Collaborate with ownership representatives and consultants regarding the implementation of policies and procedures as needed.
  • Lead the evaluation and participates in the implementation of new business opportunities.
  • Proactively promotes and leads process improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in RFPs and negotiations with venues, broadcasters, and sponsors, as applicable.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Finance/Accounting
  • Lead a high-performing finance/accounting team responsible for managing financial strategies and accounting systems, tools, and processes compliant with GAAP and international standards, ensuring compliance with all relevant financial regulations, accounting standards, and tax requirements. 
  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, regulatory and other reporting, and analyses, including tax planning and compliance with all required federal, state/provincial, local, payroll, and other applicable taxes. 
  • Define and enforce operating practices to ensure timely and accurate flow of funds.
  • Manage the organizational budgeting process.
  • Continuously analyzes the PWHL’s financial performance, identifying areas of improvement and working with leadership to implement improvements.
  • Provides financial advice, counsel, and leadership on strategic and operating initiatives to both the Senior Management team and Advisory Board.
  • Liaise with auditors to conduct financial audits as needed.
Human Resources
  • Lead a high-performing human resources team responsible for managing recruiting, onboarding, offers of employment, terminations, and benefits management.
  • Maintain job classifications consistent with all applicable statutes and league policies, in collaboration with legal department.
  • Provides leadership and guidance on policies and procedures for league and team employees.
Information Technology
  • Liaise with technology consultant to provide for requisite hardware and software programs and other technological needs for the company.
  • Enforce policies with respect to employee access of technology systems.
Risk Management
  • Manage the League’s insurance policies and internal processes related thereto, in collaboration with VP & General Counsel, VP League Operations & Compliance, and insurance consultants.

 QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is required. MBA is preferred.
  • 10+ years of Accounting, Finance, Administrative experience, with at least 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • CPA or equivalent qualification.
  • Prior experience leading the financial function within a sports league or for a sports team preferred.
  • Knowledge of both U.S. and Canadian protocols a plus.
 
SKILLS, ABILITIES & OTHER ATTRIBUTES: 
  • Possess excellent financial aptitude, analytical, business acumen, problem solving and leadership skills.
  • Strong financial modeling and analysis skills. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP and IFRS. 
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to align financial initiatives with business goals.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to collaborate and influence stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Self-motivated with a strong initiative to drive continuous improvement.
  • Possess effective computer skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), ADP, NetSuite.
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends when necessary, during the season.
