Position Summary
The Manager, Hockey Operations & Team Services plays a key role in delivering exceptional care and logistical support to players, coaches, and hockey operations staff for PWHL Detroit. Reporting to the General Manager, this individual oversees travel, events, and operational planning, ensuring compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and contributing to player well-being and performance. Working closely with the Hockey Operations Coordinator, the Manager helps drive efficiency, professionalism, and consistency across all hockey operations functions as we launch professional women’s hockey in Detroit.

The Manager, Hockey Operations & Team Services plays a key role in delivering exceptional care and logistical support to players, coaches, and hockey operations staff for PWHL Detroit. Reporting to the General Manager, this individual oversees travel, events, and operational planning, ensuring compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and contributing to player well-being and performance. Working closely with the Hockey Operations Coordinator, the Manager helps drive efficiency, professionalism, and consistency across all hockey operations functions as we launch professional women’s hockey in Detroit.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage and communicate training and travel itineraries for all players and staff, including air travel, transportation, accommodation, meals, and other travel-related items.
- Serve as the primary contact for travel agencies and vendors, troubleshooting issues and identifying solutions as needed.
- Accompany the team for all road trips, overseeing team transportation, accommodations, and meal logistics to ensure smooth operations.
- Track player and staff expenses and per diem for road games and submit accurate team expense reports in a timely manner.
- Manage the planning and execution of pre- and post-training and game day meals, ensuring proper delivery and setup of snacks and meals for players and staff — including snacks for home and away teams at home games, and snacks for bus rides and hotel stays at away games.
- Fully understand and implement CBA provisions related to travel, relocation, training services, and player appearances to ensure full compliance.
- Manage the transition and relocation of new players, including housing arrangements, travel, and any necessary transition services.
- Organize administrative and immigration requirements such as visas, passports, paperwork, insurance, and other legal and medical documents.
- Secure and maintain player information such as passports, driver’s licenses, and key contact details.
- Collaborate with the team dietician regarding appropriate meals, snacks, and supplements.
- Ensure all player appearances align with CBA guidelines and coordinate with business operations regarding appearance scheduling.
- Develop comprehensive welcome packages for visiting teams including detailed information regarding the home venue, locker rooms, ticketing, local restaurants, and other relevant logistics.
- Pan and execute team-related events during the season and the off-season.
- Manage team and player logistics for the PWHL Entry Draft, ensuring all preparations are in place for smooth execution.
- Coordinate with coaching staff to create and distribute team schedules, including player practices, games, and meetings.
- Oversee and manage special team events, promotional activities, and sponsor-related functions, in collaboration with business operations.
- Work closely with the Game Operations Coordinator to ensure seamless game day and event operations as it relates to team and players.
- Support player and full-time staff complimentary ticket requests for both home and away games.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of team and player spaces.
- Manage team-related purchases within budget, reporting any variances between budget and actual expenditures.
- Manage billing (Airbase) and budgeting follow-ups in support of the General Manager and team operations, and serve as a point of contact for players and staff regarding billing and payment inquiries.
- Work with hockey operations on team expenditures and budget forecasting.
- Order general office supplies as needed and maintain an updated “Play by Play” master plan, tracking operational tasks, improvements, and post-activity evaluations to improve future planning.
- Assist with administrative processes for training camp preparations, including medical, legal, and insurance paperwork, housing, transport, and reimbursements.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in a hockey operations management role.
- Knowledge of performance needs for professional athletes.
- Knowledge of game day operations, including team and ice-level requirements.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional hockey experience is considered an asset.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Flexibility & Travel
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required, including all team road trips during the pre-season, regular season, and post-season.
