Position Summary
The Social Media Manager is responsible for managing all team social media channels for PWHL Detroit, creating and publishing compelling content that engages fans and reflects the team’s brand. This role supports fan growth and key business priorities across the PWHL ecosystem, including ticket sales, partnerships, and broadcasts, while executing digital strategy, building community, and analyzing performance to inform future efforts. As a foundational role in our Detroit launch, this individual will help establish the team’s digital voice and presence from day one.

The Social Media Manager is responsible for managing all team social media channels for PWHL Detroit, creating and publishing compelling content that engages fans and reflects the team’s brand. This role supports fan growth and key business priorities across the PWHL ecosystem, including ticket sales, partnerships, and broadcasts, while executing digital strategy, building community, and analyzing performance to inform future efforts. As a foundational role in our Detroit launch, this individual will help establish the team’s digital voice and presence from day one.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy that aligns with team and League objectives, including audience growth, engagement, and brand positioning.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging platforms to ensure the team’s social media presence remains innovative and relevant.
- Plan and execute content calendars for all social media platforms, ensuring a balance between promotional, informative, and entertaining content.
- Collaborate with internal teams, other PWHL teams, and external partners to gather content and maintain a consistent brand voice.
- Develop creative and engaging content (photo, video, graphics, etc.) for various platforms (Instagram, X, Facebook, TikTok, etc.) to showcase the team’s personality, achievements, and behind-the-scenes moments.
- Edit graphics for social, video, web, and other uses as needed.
- Coordinate with the marketing and communications teams to align content with overall branding and promotional initiatives.
- Foster a vibrant and active online community by responding to comments, messages, and mentions across social media channels on a regular basis.
- Encourage fan interaction through polls, Q&A sessions, and other interactive elements.
- Lead real-time live coverage of all games throughout the season, including information, updates, and highlights for each game.
- Cover team events and press conferences on team social media platforms as needed.
- Collaborate with the PWHL marketing team to produce and share visually appealing graphics, videos, and other multimedia content.
- Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships with influencers, brands, and other stakeholders to amplify the team and the League’s reach and impact.
- Monitor and analyze social media metrics to assess campaign performance, identify trends, and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
- Provide regular reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) to track social media growth and engagement.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Social Media Manager, preferably in the sports or entertainment industry.
- Strong copywriting skills with ability to craft engaging, on-brand content.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud platforms.
- Ability to shoot and edit photo and video content.
- Strong knowledge of social media platforms, trends, and analytics tools.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in professional sports or entertainment.
- Familiarity with hockey and/or women’s professional sports.
- Experience with influencer partnerships and brand collaborations.
- Existing connection to the Detroit market and local digital/creative community.
Flexibility & Travel
Candidate must be able to work on-site with flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required to cover live events during the pre-season, regular season, and post-season.
