Position Summary
The Director of Learning & Performance plays directly supports our goal of building a high-performance, learning-oriented culture at the Pittsburgh Penguins. This role leads to design, development and execution of talent development, performance management, and learning programs across both business operations, hockey operations and in-arena partners. This role partners with executives and department leaders to cultivate individual growth, team effectiveness, and organizational capability to support a winning culture on and off the ice.
Key Responsibilities
Learning & Development (L&D)
· Develop and deliver a comprehensive learning and development strategy that supports skill-based learning and employee growth at all levels.
· Design, curate, and deploy learning experiences such as workshops, speaker series, leadership academies, online courses, and coaching engagements.
· Design, develop and deliver Guest Experience training program and learning experiences in partnership with key stakeholders and partners.
· Partner with departments to identify skill gaps and design targeted training aligned to strategic priorities (e.g., DEI, leadership, fan engagement, technology adoption).
· Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of learning programs through feedback, engagement, and performance outcomes.
Performance Management
· Design, develop and oversee the performance management cycle, ensuring alignment with business goals and values.
· Champion a culture of continuous feedback, coaching, and accountability.
· Train managers to conduct effective goal-setting, performance reviews, and development conversations.
· Manage performance cycle data, including performance index, internal mobility and goal contribution.
Leadership Development
· Design and implement leadership development frameworks that support the growth of current and future leaders across the organization.
· Facilitate leadership workshops, and 360 feedback assessments.
· Support business and hockey operations leaders with tools and training to lead high-performing teams on and off the ice.
Culture & Engagement
· Promote and reinforce a strong, inclusive, and values-driven culture throughout the organization.
· Support employee engagement action planning, and follow-through.
· Foster a learning mindset across the organization by embedding growth opportunities into the employee experience.
People Analytics & Insights
· Use data to evaluate the effectiveness of talent and learning strategies and recommend areas for improvement.
· Provide talent dashboards and reports to senior leadership to support data-driven decision-making.
· Work to fully integrate performance process into ADP
Strategic Projects & Change Management
· Support people-related initiatives such as organizational design, team integration, or change initiatives.
· Act as a strategic advisor to leaders on team effectiveness, development planning, and culture-building efforts.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Communication, Organizational Development, Education, or a related field
· 8–10+ years of progressive experience in talent development, learning & development, or HR leadership roles.
· Demonstrated success building L&D programs and performance management systems in fast-paced, high-performance environments.
· Experience designing and delivering learning content, both in-person and digitally.
· Familiarity with performance platforms, LMS tools, and talent analytics.
· Experience working in sports, entertainment, retail, hospitality or mission-driven organizations is a plus.
· Passion for industry and alignment with team culture and values.

Working Conditions
· Standard business hours with flexibility to support evening/weekend games or team events.
· Hybrid schedule with regular in-office presence and on-site support during key events or programs.
· Ability to travel to UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex as needed
