Location: PPG Paints Arena, 1001 Fifth Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15219
Status: Paid Internship, Part-Time, In-Person
Schedule: Flexible scheduling within 15 hours per week, including availability during regular business hours
Compensation: $10/hour
Overview
The Accounting & Finance Intern will support the Finance team with day-to-day financial and administrative functions for the Pittsburgh Penguins organization. This internship provides hands-on experience in financial operations within a professional sports organization and will include opportunities to gain exposure to accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, and general accounting processes.
The intern will work closely with members of the Finance team and will gain experience analyzing information, preparing reports, maintaining financial records, and assisting with department projects and processes. This role may involve exposure to confidential financial and organizational information. Interns are expected to maintain confidentiality and exercise appropriate discretion at all times.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Assist with routine accounting and financial operations activities.
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including reviewing invoices and expense reports and organizing related documentation.
- Assist with account reconciliations and research discrepancies as needed.
- Maintain organized and accurate financial records.
Reporting & Data Analysis
- Assist with preparing recurring financial reports and department summaries.
- Assist with reviewing financial information for accuracy and completeness.
- Use Excel to organize, analyze, and present financial information.
Budgeting & Business Support
- Assist with tracking department budgets and expenses.
- Support financial analysis and research for various departments and organizational initiatives.
- Assist with preparing materials and information for internal financial reviews.
- Gain exposure to how financial planning and reporting support decision-making within a professional sports organization.
Projects & Administrative Support
- Support special projects and process improvement initiatives within the Finance department.
- Assist with documentation, filing, and other administrative finance tasks.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Applicants should have completed at least two years of college or demonstrate equivalent education, training, or relevant experience in a related field.
- Ability to work in person at PPG Paints Arena.
- Availability to work approximately 15 hours per week during regular business hours.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and accuracy.
- Ability to handle confidential financial information with professionalism and discretion.
Preferred Skills
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including experience working with formulas, sorting, filtering, and organizing data.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Interest in learning about accounting and finance operations within the professional sports industry.
- Previous coursework or experience in accounting, finance, or data analysis.
Penguins Internship Program Information

Anticipated Internship Term: January 11th, 2027 - April 16th, 2027
Course Credit: Students remain eligible for earning course credits for their internship and will be responsible for ensuring that the internship meets the criteria of their program and/or university.
