About:

F&M Bank Arena is a new arena in Clarksville TN which includes two sheets of ice and a practice court for APSU.  The Ice Manager will be responsible and manage all aspects related to installing and maintaining the two sheets of ice in the building.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage removal, installation, and maintenance of an NHL quality sheet of ice, which includes in-depth knowledge and skill in operating ice-resurfacing machines, ensuring a thoroughly cleaned floor, freezing the floor, painting the base color, painting lines and logos, and building the ice to required depths.
  • Recruit, manage, develop, and train ice personnel including Zamboni drivers, Ice Crew, and game day staff.
  • Supervise the work of the Ice Crew employees at FMBA including determining work techniques to perform ice maintenance and repairs. 
  • Evaluate staff, including appraising productivity, working with employees to correct deficiencies, disciplining employees, making recommendations as to the interviewing, hiring, firing and advancement promotion or any other change of status of employee under the Ice Manager’s supervision.
  • This is a working manager role with the manager driving ice resurfacer or assisting Ice Rink Techs for all cuts and maintenance during scheduled shifts. Weekends with heavy events or tournaments will also require the manager to be onsite to oversee all ice operations.
  • Plan and prepare work schedules, expedite workflow, and examine work of employees for safety, completeness, and quality.
  • Monitor, document and report all occurrences during set-ups including employee accidents or injuries, facility or equipment damage or misuse, and disciplinary problems with full or temporary staff members.
  • Identify topics for and provide, develop, and coordinate staff training and safety practices.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and practices.
  • Operate and maintain ice resurfacing equipment in a safe manner while preparing ice for all practices, games, and other ice events. Duties include removing debris; checking ice depth; scraping, edging, and resurfacing ice.
  • Develop all ice cut schedules and ensure they are completed on time, correctly, and safely.
  • Manage and maintain controls over ice operating budget/dasher maintenance/part time payroll.
  • Initiate, develop and oversee all ice event management and coordination with various departments and team management/sales/youth activities/corporate sponsorship.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and practices.
  • Responsible for the safe usage and storage of liquid propane fuel within the facility and routinely monitor and change the Zamboni propane tanks.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of all maintenance activities utilizing daily, weekly, and monthly logs and checklists.
  • Conduct weekly walkthroughs of rink system to ensure all components meet safety requirements and are operable.
  • Lace and maintain hockey goals and maintain an accurate inventory of ice making tools and supplies.
  • Adhere to all OSHA Safety Standards and be alert and communicate safety / security problems to management immediately.
  • Adhere to manufacturer specifications when using equipment or materials in order to assure no risk to self, fellow employees or guests.
  • Assist in the repairs of ice resurfacing equipment as required.
  • Maintain, monitor, and document voltmeter, hydrometer, and compressor readings to ensure the safe operations of ice equipment.
  • Maintain, monitor, and document Air Quality Standards by assisting in the documentation of meter readings.
  • Other miscellaneous duties include serving as facility Manager on Duty during assigned arena and Ford Ice Center events, attending weekly production meetings, safety meetings, facility staff meetings, and serving on other committees as a representative of the facility operations department.
  • Perform other duties or assist in other projects as assigned by management.

 

Minimum Requirements

  •  Four (4) Year Bachelor’s degree required in related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience safely operating ice resurfacing equipment, floor scrubber, scissor lift and forklifts.
  • Three (3) – Five (5) of experience in a similar supervisory or management position.
  • CIT (Certified Ice Technician) preferred.
  • Knowledgeable of performance of all ice resurfacing equipment in accordance to safety standards implemented within the maintenance certification training.
  • Ability to read and write and to follow written and oral instructions and complete standardized checklist forms.
  • Knowledge and experience with a CMMS work order system for all work orders, preventative maintenance, and reports/documentation. Is preferred.
  • Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills in dealing with the public, athletes, hockey associations, sponsors, staff, patrons.
  • Excellent problem solving and organizational skills, with a personal hands-on approach.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in the practice and procedures related to ice installation, preparation, and maintenance; typical methods and techniques for maintaining, repairing and building ice.
  • The selected candidate must be able to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Required to be on call 24/7 to respond for emergency call-ins outside of normal shift hours to address critical issues or snow removal.
  • As a condition of employment, qualified applicant will be subject to a background check, including a criminal history check, driving history and character references.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, possess a suitable driving history and be insurable by SS&E’s insurance carrier (without conditions).

 

Essential Physical Requirements

  • High finger dexterity.
  • Frequently lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, occasionally lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds and have the stamina needed for walking, standing, and being in a crouched position for long periods of time.
  • Capable of carrying and climbing portable and fixed ladders, accessing remote areas of the facility, working with hand and power tools, communicating via portable radio, reading, and comprehending blueprints and drawings.
  • Ability to work with and around water and ice/freezing temperatures for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to respond to visual and audible alarms from building automation and life safety systems.
  • Ability to walk and stand on concrete and uneven surfaces for at least 4 hours per day.
  • Ability to bend, kneel and work with arms raised for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to climb over and into heavy equipment several times per day.
  • Occasional working at heights above 10 feet.
  • Ability to pull/push equipment.
  • Ability to work and endure multiple hours on an ice surface.
  • Exposure to bright lights, extreme temperatures, dust, and loud noise
  • Excellent speaking and listening skills, requiring the perception of speech.
