Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee hiring, training and managing of the operations department for full-time and part-time staff members, including working with Human Resources to ensure completion of onboarding, essential workplace and safety-related trainings, performance management, etc.
  • Evaluate staff, including appraising productivity, working with employees to correct deficiencies, disciplining employees, making recommendations as to the interviewing, hiring, firing, advancement or any other change of status of employee under the Director of Facility Operations.
  • Prepare weekly work schedules, expedite event related information to subordinates.
  • Formulate, manage and track the yearly operations department operating and capital improvements budgets. 
  • Assist in the preparation and negation of service agreements for the maintenance contracts and other services as needed.
  • Implement and train operations department employees on the operating procedures, preventative maintenance schedules, emergency plans and safety management policies and ensure consistency across facilities
  • Install and maintain NHL quality ice surface(s) and maintain the ice maintenance equipment. 
  • Purchase and maintain all facility equipment and track the asset management of the facility. 
  • Responsible for operations annual budget, including tracking expenses and ordering/maintaining related supplies, materials, and tools.
  • Monitor, document, and report all incident occurrences for operations, including but not limited to employee accidents or injuries and/or near misses, facility or equipment damage or misuse, safety violations and disciplinary problems with full-time or part-time staff members.
  • Manage relationships with service providers, including but not limited to housekeeping, fire suppression, HVAC, elevator control, and waste management.
  • Develop, train, and supervise ice personnel including drivers, staff and Operations Manager on the operating procedures, preventative maintenance schedules, emergency plans and safety management policies.
  • Conduct weekly walkthroughs of rink system to ensure all components meet safety requirements and are operable; document findings and escalate concerns as needed.
  • Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gather and analyze information to develop alternative solutions; work well in group problem solving situations; use reason and good judgment when dealing with difficult or emotional situations. 
  • Communicate and work with Operations team at other locations as needed.
  • Inspect operating functions to evaluate efficiency methods; investigate, analyze and resolve operational problems and complaints, conduct regular staff meetings to discuss procedures, problems and explain policy changes.
  • Assemble and maintain a reference library of plans, specifications, and technical manuals from architects, contractors and manufacturers.
  • Monitors and responds to building alarms, automated system alerts and facility notifications coordinating appropriate follow-up and response actions.
  • Other miscellaneous duties including serving as facility Manager on Duty, attending facility staff and senior management staff meetings, coordinating and leading weekly operations staff meetings, and serving on other committees as a representative of the operations department. 
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

 

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • College degree in sports administration, industrial engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 5-7 years’ experience in public facility management or related field.
  • 2 years’ experience in a similar supervisory or management position.
  • Possess a basic working knowledge of facility Operations, including but not limited to: HVAC, electrical, lighting, audio visual systems, and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to interact with internal and external customers clearly, effectively, and professionally.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and creative problem-solving skills.
  • The selected candidate must be able to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • As a condition of employment, qualified applicants will be subject to a background check, including a criminal history check, driving history and character references.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, possess a suitable driving history and be insurable by SS&E’s insurance carrier (without conditions).

 

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Good physical condition and health, sufficient strength and stamina needed for heavy, awkward and repeated lifting up to 75lbs., carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity.
  • Ability to stand and walk for sustained periods of time and/or to move quickly about the building.
  • Ability to work long and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to respond to visual and audible alarms from building automation and life safety systems.
  • Capable of carrying and climbing portable and fixed ladders, accessing remote areas of the facility and working with hand and power tools, communicating via portable radio, reading and comprehending blueprints and drawings.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for long periods of time.
  • Exposure to bright lights, extreme temperatures, dust, and loud noise.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Excellent speaking and listening skills, requiring the perception of speech.

 

 

Equipment Used:

  • Office Equipment (PC based desktop, Multi-line Phone System, etc.)
  • Various power and hand tools.
  • Forklift, Zamboni, scissor lifts, boom lifts, motor vehicles, and other light-duty machinery.
