Community Relations Intern - $15.97 per hour

The Community Relations Intern and Hockey Partnerships will work with the Community Relations and Hockey Partnerships department to assist with all aspects of the department’s various programs and events. This role assists with the development and day-to-day execution of activities and events including providing support with program and game day needs, managing the Community Relations e-mail inbox, and support of other related initiatives.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Assist with all logistics of the Little Wild Learn to Play Program, including:
    o Incoming phone calls and emails.
    o Attend as many Little Wild sites as possible.
  • Responsible for coordinating the logistics of the Minnesota Wild Faceoff for Fitness school program, including:
    o Act as a point of contact for all participating schools.
    o Schedule and coordinate all school visits.
    o Work with social media department as needed.
    o Act as point of contact for the Faceoff for Fitness team, including mascot, host, alumni and female hockey ambassador.
    o Attend all school visits, arriving in advance of the team to greet the school staff and answer questions about the program.
    o Take photos at all school visits.
    o Send follow-up emails to each participating school after each visit.
  • Manage the Community Relations inbox and reply to all emails in a timely manner.
  • Assist with the fulfillment of donation requests.
  • Assist with team dog as needed.
  • Assist at the following events as needed:
    o Girls Hockey Weekend
    o Mite Holiday Jamboree
    o Youth Hockey Spotlight Games
    o Youth Hockey Referee Seminar and Clinic
    o Equipment Drive
    o Strike It Wild
    o Hockey Fights Cancer
    o Military Appreciation Night
    o Black History Month Game
    o Diversified Hockey Night
    o Hockey Without Limits Day
    o Pride Night
    o Hockey Talks
    o Community Drives
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

Formal Education & Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Sales, Marketing, Public Relations, Communication, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Experience working in customer service or the sports industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of the sport of hockey strongly preferred.
  • Previous hockey experience and the ability to skate is preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills with ability to use Microsoft Office (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, with a focus on quality community and guest experience.
  • Coachable, open to learning and accepting feedback.

Work Conditions:

  • Must be confident and skilled enough on the ice to teach beginners in a safe and supportive manner.
  • Must have a large vehicle capable of transporting equipment (e.g., hockey gear, etc.) to various locations.
  • Must be comfortable working with dogs and does not have allergies that would interfere with working with them.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed for games and events.
  • Physical requirements include sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, lifting, grasping, etc.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
