Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach - $70,000 - $90,000 annually 

Position Summary: The Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach supports all aspects of athlete performance, health, and development for the Minnesota Wild, working closely with strength and conditioning, sports medicine, coaching, and hockey operations staff. This role contributes expertise in strength and conditioning along with one or more areas such as return-to-performance training, sport science, athlete monitoring, performance technology, nutrition, recovery, data management, or performance analytics. The position is important because it helps optimize player readiness, long-term development, and overall team performance within a modern high-performance NHL environment.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Assist in the design and implementation of individualized strength and conditioning programs for NHL athletes.
  • Deliver and supervise daily training sessions throughout the season and offseason.
  • Conduct performance testing and physical evaluations.
  • Assist in the development of speed, power, strength, mobility, and conditioning programs.
  • Support the ongoing physical development of players throughout their professional careers.
  • Support return-to-performance process.
    • Assist in the physical reconditioning of injured athletes as they progress through the rehabilitation continuum.
    • Collaborate with medical staff to develop and implement return-to-performance programs.
    • Utilize objective testing and performance benchmarks to guide athlete progression.
    • Help bridge the gap between clinical rehabilitation and unrestricted NHL competition.
  • Implement sport science and athlete monitoring.
    • Collect, manage, and interpret athlete performance data.
    • Assist with monitoring player workload, recovery, readiness, and performance trends.
    • Support force plate testing, jump testing, strength diagnostics and other athlete monitoring initiatives.
  • Assist with the management and operation of performance technologies including but not limited to:
    • Catapult
    • Firstbeat
    • VALD Technologies
    • ForceDecks
    • Dynamo
    • SmartSpeed
    • GymAware
  • Maintain accurate athlete records and performance databases.
  • Provide education and support related to nutrition, supplementation, hydration, sleep, and recovery strategies.
  • Assist in the implementation of evidence-based recovery initiatives.
  • Help athletes optimize performance through lifestyle and recovery interventions.
  • Continue professional development efforts in the role.
    • Remain current with emerging research and best practices in performance training, rehabilitation, sport science, and athlete development.
    • Contribute to a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

Formal Education & Certification:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sport Science, Human Performance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification required.

 

Knowledge & Experience:

  • At least three years of experience working in collegiate, professional, Olympic, or elite athletic environments preferred.
  • Experience working with hockey athletes strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Return-to-Performance Training
    • Sport Science
    • Athlete Monitoring
    • Data Analytics
    • Performance Technology
    • Nutrition and Supplementation
    • Recovery Science
  • Strong understanding of exercise prescription, periodization, and athlete development.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, athlete management systems, and data visualization platforms.

Work Conditions:

  • Ability to work all Minnesota Wild home and away games as well as summer training.
  • Ability to travel to all Minnesota Wild away games.
  • Physical requirements include sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, lifting, grasping, etc.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
