Job Summary
The Communications Associate will assist the LA Kings’ Hockey Communications Staff with game-day duties, including press setup, credentialing, postgame notes and other media servicing duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
- Assist the Communications Department with game day duties in preparation for members of the media, scouts, league personnel and team staff, including setting up the Bob Miller Press Box and Chick Hearn Press Room, printing materials for in-game use, seating chart distribution, and interview support.
- Assist Hockey Communications Staff in compiling in-game and postgame notes. Associates will do so using various statistical-based recourses provided by the team, including NHL.com/stats, EliteProspects.com, StatHead.com, StatMuse.com and more. In doing so, associates will learn and master the process involved in writing stat-based hockey information, player section notes and game notes for upcoming games.
- Ensure the single gameday credential window through Media Will Call at Crypto.com Arena’s Box Office is opened 2.5 hours prior to puck drop and that all credentials are distributed to the appropriate personnel, including but not limited to media, scouts, guests, league personnel, etc.
- Following the game, associates will be involved in helping set up all post-game interviews and gather audio from both home and visiting dressing rooms to be distributed to members of the media and posted on the team’s media-only website, LAKings.com/media.
- Associates may be subject to interactions with players and executives of the LA Kings, visiting team personnel, league officials and local and national media outlets. Candidates will be expected to act in a professional manner at all times.
- The ideal candidates will be expected to have availability working two out of every three homes games. There will be 15-20 hours of gameday time per week as needed, depending on the team’s schedule.
- Other duties as assigned, with potential for in-office hours and projects as assigned.
Specific Job Knowledge, Skill, and Ability
The Communications Associate must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skill and abilities:
- Ideal candidates should be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator and in Microsoft Office, including Work, Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to multi-task in fast-paced environment.
- Work effectively under deadlines.
- High degree of organizational skills.
- Strong hockey knowledge and interest in other team sports a plus.
Qualification Standards
Education:
- High School Diploma of its equivalency
Experience:
- A minimum of 0-1 years of related professional work or internship experience.
Payscale: $18.47/hr
Bonus: This position is not eligible for a bonus under the current bonus plan requirements.
Benefits Part-time: This position may be eligible for benefits (ACA qualification).
