YouTube Coordinating Editor

WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU
SUMMARY
NHL Productions Digital team is seeking a Coordinating Editor with a proven track record in YouTube editing, analytics, and audience development. This role is for creators who understand how YouTube works at a deep level — from crafting high-retention edits to interpreting data and shaping content strategy.
You’ll help define the NHL’s YouTube channel by using performance insights to guide creative decisions and build formats that keep fans watching. You’ll take projects from concept to publication, ensuring every video feels unmistakably NHL and engineered for YouTube success.
Ideal candidates are passionate about hockey and well-versed in the NHL ecosystem—including players, teams, storylines, and culture. You must be comfortable using YouTube data to inform creative decisions and continuously improve our content.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Edit and shape long-form YouTube videos that focus on strong openings and clear narrative arcs, being mindful of pacing for retention and watch-time with visual clarity and creator-style storytelling
- Experience working with YouTube Studio and analytics tools, using performance data such as retention, watch time, and CTR to evaluate video success and inform creative and editorial decisions across edits, formats, and series
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of thumbnail creation and optimization, pulling selects directly from edits to maximize CTR while maintaining creative and brand integrity
- Implement audience engagement strategies, such as A/B testing thumbnails and titles, managing and responding to community comments, and leveraging audience feedback to inform content decisions
- Build and improve content designed specifically for YouTube, such as recurring series, multi-episode stories, and high-profile event programming
- Edit and deliver sponsored YouTube content that feels authentic, audience-respectful, and performance-driven
- Produce and support live and live-to-tape YouTube streams, including pre- and post-event content
- Strong project management or multitasking abilities for balancing multiple deadlines
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge Areas/Experience
- Candidates must submit a portfolio, demo reel, or links to previous YouTube projects that demonstrate strong storytelling, high-level editing ability, and a proven ability to grow or engage audiences. Work samples should showcase long-form storytelling, series-based formats, or sports content engineered for retention, engagement, and platform-native viewing behaviors
- Minimum 8 years of experience producing digital-first video content in sports or entertainment, with a proven track record of success on YouTube or creator-driven platforms, including audience growth and high-performing projects
- Demonstrated expertise in YouTube SEO, including keyword research, optimizing metadata (titles, tags, descriptions), and implementing channel optimization best practices to maximize visibility and discoverability
- 7–10 years of advanced, hands-on experience with Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop, including editing, motion graphics, and thumbnail creation for YouTube content
- Strong understanding of content strategies, audience behaviors, and best practices across major social video platforms, with an emphasis on how YouTube differs from TikTok, Instagram, and broadcast
- Experience producing branded or sponsored content integrations that authentically engage the audience, maintain editorial integrity, and deliver measurable value for partners and sponsors
- Proven ability to pitch, develop, and execute new content concepts and series designed to increase viewership, deepen engagement, and drive sustainable channel growth
